Turn signal switch loose
The turn signal switch rod in my 68 has been loose ever since I got the truck back. It also does not click off after my turns are completed. Do I have to pull the steering wheel to replace it?

Re: Turn signal switch loose
Yes you will, it sounds like the switch broke.

Re: Turn signal switch loose
Your canceling spring is broken, yes you have to remove the wheel.

Re: Turn signal switch loose
Rats! Do I need a steering wheel puller, or can this be done with a socket set?

Re: Turn signal switch loose
You can remove it without a puller. Remove the nut on the wheel and remove the washer if there is one. Important put the nut back a few threads, this will stop the wheel from hitting you in the face. Give the wheel a few whacks with your hand on the backside, then pull real hard. It should come off.

Re: Turn signal switch loose
Just got done replacing my turn signal switch a couple hours ago!
I accidentally pushed down on my turn signal too hard and broke the switch on the inside. I lost the turn signals, and it also caused one of my brake lights to not work, while the other one flickered. I ordered the switch from LMC, and it took me about an hour and a half to swap it out. The turn signal is much more "crisp" now, no play, binds, or noises. If your steering wheel is perfectly straight when you're going down the road, be sure and mark it before you take it off! They're sensitive to their position! There's a factory alignment mark on the column bolt, but mine was a little off true alignment. At first I had a hard time tucking the wires in, to where they weren't in the way. Then I had a Homer Simpson "DOH!" moment, when I saw the little hook on the switch that kept them out of the way. After that it was a breeze.

Re: Turn signal switch loose
Why did it take an hour and a half?!?!? I was hoping it would not be that involved! I hope this is not too complicated.

Re: Turn signal switch loose
I had to stop a couple times, (the girlfriend needed help hanging pics.) it's not too involved, but more involved than you'd think. Just pay attention to how you take it all apart. If you need help give me a hollar.
