Should I turn my huck brake drums?

Is it really a bad idea to turn my 49 Huck brake drums?

Re: Should I turn my huck brake drums?

The Huck brake drums were fairly thin walled to start with. If you have them trued up they may be too thin to dissipate the heat while braking and will end up warping and you're back to square one. I dont know if they even make new ones.

It may be one of those deals where if it isn't broke don't go fixing it. If they have a decent surface for the shoes to mate against you may be better off leaving them alone as 554metalmonkey suggested. I've never seen any info on their thickness or max dia if you turn them but I have never looked either.

With all the guys changing to 5 lug or disk on their early axles I'd think it wouldn't be too hard to find usable drums if yours are too thin.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Should I turn my huck brake drums?

Thanks, I wouldn't know if mine were to thin. I will put them on the truck and will see if I have issues with the warping. I bet I will feel it when I stop the truck....
