Re: ss454 rear end ?

they are a semi floater 14 bolt with 5 lug axles they use a different width spring pirch and I believe they are a little wider. the axles tubes are bigger diameter than a 10 or 12 bolt.

Re: ss454 rear end ?

These would be a nice rear axle swap for a K5 Blazer due to the wider width and stronger axles.

Rare and usually expensive. 3.73 gears in 90, 4.10 after that.

Re: ss454 rear end ?

do you really need 14 bolt strength? first and most obvious question. how about a ford 9 inch. or a 12 bolt instead? Yukon makes better axle shafts, as do other companies. old school dana 44 also... w my square I cant hook the tires hard enough to break anything as of yet, all I do is roast rubber off. on rocks or similar I have broke things.. but on the street is a lil harder to get a wheel bound up enough to break a shaft, full floaters are much better, but the swap is a entire can of worms, not hard. just a lot...

Re: ss454 rear end ?

No I don't need a 14 bolt, I just want one that I can convert to 5 lug.

Re: ss454 rear end ?

They sell kits to change a full float to a 6x5.5 or 5x5.5 lug,The drive flange is 400 bucks plus you have to come up with new drums or disc with the same lug pattern.

Re: ss454 rear end ?

Just so we're all on the same page... The 454SS 14-bolt is a factory semi-floating 5-lug with 9.50" ring gear and 14 bolts on the diff cover. It is the same center section as found in 81+ 2500s with the lesser GVWR(s), of semi-float 8-lug configuration. Different animal than the 14-bolt full float 8-lug rear axle as found in 73+ trucks/Suburbans. Also, since the 454SS axle was found under a GMT-400 platform truck, it will have the perches and shock mounts placed for that chassis. They can be cut off and replaced, permitting the axle to be installed in whatever you want. Things to consider, it will have metric lug studs and the WMS-WMS distance is either unique to 454SS trucks or normal to the GMT-400 platform.

If you want to research them, the 5-lug axle part number for the 454SS assembly should be 26016185 the rpo is B4U. (B4U - Sports Performance Package, Sport Performance)

8.5 will be plenty for all but the largest hp and slicks.

I didn't ask about a 8.5
I was inquiring about the ss454 5 lug 14 bolt rear end Why in the hell would you make that statement? You have NO clue as to what I'm even doing.
