Lowered my 85 Today

Here is my 85 I lowered today.

2.5" Mcgauphys spindles 1 coil cut, Specialtyretail's Flip bracket and Shackles. 2" on pass and 1" on driver.

Spindles hit the wheel weights so I used a Mr gasket 7/32" Spacer on the front.

Notch and New Shocks hopefully this week, Not a Daily. Smaller Tires Soon.

Wheels are Summit Racing 15x8 4.25 BS

Go to a 255/60R15 tire. Should fit just about right.

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

So I replaced the front tires with 235/75s, Removed the spacers(Had to grind the spindle at the tire rods a tad and the LCA a little more). I installed shocks on it and need to lower the rear mount about 2". I swore I read someone used front shocks on the rear, So I picked up some and they are about maxed out at ride height. So when It compresses its ok but when it goes back up it locks out.

Nice truck.. I have a question for you, I have a flip kit in the back and still have the chevy lean.. I noticed on your post you put shackles on.. And lowered it 2in on passenger side and 1in on the driver side.. Did you do that because of the lean and did it fix it..

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

I used a set of 79 Toyota truck rear shocks. The stock Toyo's are 19.5" extended and 12" compressed. The Chevy's are 22" and 14". They work great.

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

Do you reckon the angle of the shock with a flip kit makes it harder to compress on the stroke? I have thought about making a crossmember and mounting the shocks vertical behind the axle. Maybe even install air shocks that I have.

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

I think you would still want them at the same angle. BTW truck looks nice, like the two tone white and red.

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

The truck looks great. I have a 4.5/6 McGaughy's ready to install on my truck, but I've been waiting on doing it to rebuild some of the the front end. Did you install new upper & lower ball joints? Did you install new inner and outer bearings?

Re: Lowered my 85 Today

Love the look. Curious about the spindle clearance issue. Do you think this would still be a problem if you are using the stock rally wheels? I was planning on running the same spindle for a 2.5/4 drop. I have 30.5" tires right now though and was worried they would be an issue after lowering.

I tried that but it helped out only a little.

I actually trimmed the passenger coil more. I took out 1/2 coil and now its a hair off to the passenger side with a Tape measure, A lot harder to see by eye. I believe its different for each vehicle. I made marks on the spring before I cut it 12, 3, 6 and 9. I started off cutting a 1/4 coil and that wasnt enough so I did another 1/4 and left it.
