I removed the cloth covered resistance wire running from the outside fuse box to the old points distributor and replaced with regular wire. This was on a 68.
There is a nice write up on here about converting to hei and it shows you exactly how to do it, all the way down to popping the terminal connector out of the fuse box. Looks stock when done.

Here's the thread . Its for a six cylinder but it shouldn't be any different with a 327.

I find the pink wire on back of the ign. switch. I scrap some insulation off of it & solder a 12 gauge wire to it. Run it through the fire wall & hook the connector to it for the HEI unit.
