Possible to axle a 2wd truck and lift?

I read off a forum from full size chevy or whatever the site is called, that a guy with a half ton 2wd pickup just tore off the crappy front end (coil springs, etc)And put a front axle lol and i think he lifted it to.And when I think about it makes perfect sense and gives me utter hope and joy to rig my sagging rust bucket and get the lift I have always wanted. He said he didn't spend much and I'm sure he didn't because axle at the yard cost nun but a few hundred and all he needs is leaf springs to weld mount on the front end.I would only want a 4 inch lift ,so I would imagine I can buy a single axle or rip it off a yard truck and take the mounts and sway bar etc and let the shop take the rest of the work.Because I have no idea how to weld or anything.I hope to spend 500$ including labor.

You can pull the 2wd stuff off and pretty much bolt 4x4 parts in place. I've seen it done, but not for $500 even if you do all the work yourself and get the axle for free.

Ok..even if I just do the front end I'm not wanting to mess with the whole drive train and fully convert to 4x4.Just have a front axle rolling to get a lift kit on the damn truck.

You could do a halfway 4x4 swap,Just the front half with out a t case or driveshaft.

I don't know why anyone would do the axle and not the tcase. Sounds to me like what you have is a 2wd pickup, and your buddies all have 4x4s with big huge tires on them. Amirite? It probably will be cheaper, easier, and safer for everyone if you sell your 2wd and buy a 4x4 with big huge tires already on it.

Look up using a lift spindle from the 88-98 truck on here.
