turn signal and wiper probs

I just bought a partially restored Chevy '68 SWB that has some issues. The left turn signal will flash both right and left taillights and left front. But when you hit the brake both rear and left front stop flashing and light up solid like brake lights.

when you hit the brakes the rear light properly but the left front lights up solid. also the left turn indicator in the instrument panel lights up solid during al this when the brakes are applied and you can hear the flasher quit working in the fuse panel.

the wipers will turn on but run very slow.

appreciate any help.
Thanks

Re: turn signal and wiper probs

To start out you need to check all your ground wires throughout your truck. There are three or four. Passenger cab side bottom to frame, truck bed to frame, engine to cab. I also added one from the battery ground to the radiator support. Can never have to many grounds. Then next check your turn signal switch but it seems to be working but could have wires shorter in the column possible.

Re: turn signal and wiper probs

LIghts are working correctly now.

Removed steering wheel from the after market tilt column got the emergency flashers to work, (no nob on it, it's flush with column).
anyway got something aligned properly and it now works.
need to determine what brand of column it is. It has some other issues I need to address.

Just need to get the slow motion wipers up tp snuff.

I have one or two grounds left to install. I have the two off the engine and the one under the cab done. Need to do the one back near the end of the bed not real sure were it goes. and may put another up front some where.

The search on this site was also a huge help also thanks to all who posted.

Re: turn signal and wiper probs

clean and lubricate the towers that the wipers mount on same thing for the rest of the linkage as 40year old moving parts get happy with cleaning and lubrigation

also scrubbing the glass with bon amie will help the wiper blades to glide over the glass
