Quad carb on my 350

Ok I have a 50 qjet carb on my 350 and want to change for something a bit smaller

Like a 600 etc now what do I look for do I need an electric choke I can't find any wire to my carb re this and I know it's not a manual choke so what do I eed to get to ensure I et the correct sort lie a Holley etc ?

I'm sure mine is not an electric choke is it a vacuum choke I'm sort of unsure about this

Ok will try again I have on my 350 a 750 quadrajet carb I want to change it for a lower cfm I have seen 600 cfm holley carbs for decent prices but not sure what I need does the standard qjet have a vacuum choke? As I can't see any wire for electric choke and I know it's not a manual so what sort of carb do I need ? Any help will be great

What are you trying to do? and why?

IMO, you want a smaller carb, for whatever reason. Keep your foot out of it. Q-jet will run as a 2 bbl as long as you don't open the secondaries. Hey look, cheap and easy.

Ok, you posted while I was typing. Q-jet does not have a vacuum choke. Electric, divorced, or hot-air chokes. Personally haven't seen a hot air on a square, but who knows whats been changed over the years.

BTW, setups are different from my '73 to '86, what you got?

The motor is an 86 350 if I do want to go the Holley setup do I get a manual choke? Just trying to get a better setup out of it

If your heart is set on a Holley, get an electric choke, you just have to wire it with a keyed hot to operate the choke. Personally I would keep the Q-Jet if you are after economy, the Holley will disappoint you for economy, in my opinion.

The Holley will dissapoint across the board unless you've built a motor the Q jet won't feed. A Q jet in halfway decent tune will give better economy, sharper response, and keep its tune better than any Holley. A Q jet is a 2bbl fuel sipping miser until you get into it and the huge secondaries start gulping air and dumping gas. Best of both IMO.

Ok would a 600 cfm q jet give me better economy? I'm using it as a work truck so not to worried about speed etc

Not measurably. The beauty of the Qjet is that its only as big as it needs to be. I don't think you'll get a noticeable mileage improvement with any carb swap. Tune the one you have, set the timing right, make sure its running tip top and you'll be as good as it can get.

There's only 2 sizes of quads. 750 cfm and 850 cfm. No matter what other carb you use you won't find one with smaller primaries than a quad. Unless you find a carter 400 or a WCFB.

If your choke pull off isn't working right it can use a lot of gas
tie it off and see how it behaves,in FLA? how bad could it get lol
don't go square bore it won't bolt up to a stock intake
I have a older Holley square bore now,
and I plan on switching back to a stock carb, manual choke
