Looked at the 72 today

Well I drove up and looked at that 72 C10 today. It was the truck I talked about in my first post. Here's the link:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=602501
As a reminder the cab is not original to the bed/frame. The 402 that is in there is original to the cab though.

It does have some rust in the floor, a dent in the passenger door, cracked windshield. The new shocks work like crap. That truck bounces horribly. Couldn't see any leaks. I totally forgot to take a picture of the SPID but it did have the 402 listed.

Anyway I offered $5,000 for it and they said no. The lowest they'd go is $6,300 and they keep the buddy buckets. I'm a little bummed. Oh they do have the title for the Cheyenne Super cab that's on it.

So now knowing that the 402 is original the cab does that affect the $6500 asking price or does it not matter because it's still a Frankenstein truck with a base C10 bed and frame? Oh and he does have the owners manual and warranty info too.

Am I dumb for still looking at this truck? Thanks for the help guys!

Keep looking. It's not like you live in an area of the country, where these trucks are impossible to find. He's asking way too much for what it is, and I can smell his BS from where I'm standing

Re: Looked at the 72 today

That is not a 6500.00 truck, end of discussion.
Just be patient. You will find a better truck if you want to spend 6500.00, or you will find something that priced right for a similar condition truck.

Re: Looked at the 72 today

Around here $6500 will get you a really nice truck.
Good luck on your search. I looked for 5 months til I pulled the trigger.
The longer I waited the more I learned what to look out for.
Don't be in a hurry to buy cause the world won't run out of these trucks until 2185 give or take a year or two.

Re: Looked at the 72 today

Is the title vin etc for a c10 or c20? As for the $5k offer, that is actually a little higher than i might have offered. Did you have the cash in hand? ThT speaks loude than words. I would let jim sit on it a few more weeks then go with $4000 CASH in Hand. (And IMO let him keep the buddy buckets, they atent correct for the truck anyway)

Yep I had the cash in hand. I was hoping that would speak volumes but he didn't care. The guy was actually in Arizona where they are moving to in December. According to the wife they've been told by numerous people that they can easily sell it for more down there so they aren't in a hurry. I'm sure this is a blessing in disguse.

Oh and I believe the title was for a C10. Not 100% sure though as the guys wife was the only one there and she didn't know a ton about the truck. Only knew that the lowest they'd go is $6300 lol.

Re: Looked at the 72 today

$6300 is just too much imo. I dont see how theywould get more in az though. oh well, its like anything else, i would only offer what you are comfortable with offering and after that let it go. You would easily have another $3-5k minimum i the truck to make it decent.

I don't get how they think they'd get more in AZ either since the truck came from Utah where it snows and we use tons of salt on the road. It'd easily be 3-5k to make it a decent truck.

Re: Looked at the 72 today

I wouldnt pay $6300 for it. If it is rust free, and the seller got an Earl Scheib paint job done it would fetch a whole lot more.

That's why I was hoping he'd take $4500 for it or even $5k. It's definitely not rust free but not horrible either.

Coming from someone in AZ, I hope he sells it before he moves here. Cause he wont get 6300 for that out here. Too many desert trucks for under 4k to choose from in better shape lol

Re: Looked at the 72 today

Trust me [I know you've never had a car dealer tell you that]the longer you wait the better off and the more educated [read smarter] you will be about people, deals in general and the trucks as a whole. You will learn more about the in and outs of the trucks even if you have had several before the more you are waiting and watching what others are doing what the market is doing it all leans in your favor in the end. Of course there is an exception to every thing if a super deal pops up and in your bones it just feels right, it is time to flash cash and ride in your new old truck. Good luck in your search may you find the one perfect for you. Jim

Re: Looked at the 72 today

It took me 4 years of looking to find my rust free short, but the difference in price just about paid for the brand new zz4 crate motor. Keep looking. I still think about the sweet rigs I looked at that were priced to high... A copo stepside from the Hanford nuclear facility comes to mind. Not to pirate the thread, but anybody on here buy that? I'd love to see the build thread.

Re: Looked at the 72 today

Lol so the guy texted me asking if I'd found a nicer SWB yet. Man it almost feels like he's trying to trick me into the truck. Just wanted to share that with you guys.

He texted that? Brave guy or very stupid.

Texts are easy to misunderstand and such a text might come off as pretty condescending....and I don't take that very well.

Tell him your offer of $4500 cash still stands for the rest of the week and let him play YOUR game instead of playing his.

Nothing much to lose.
