My New Ride. 1986 Crew Cab Dually

Well here is my latest toy. Havent been on here in awhile so figured i would post it up. Needs some interior Luv and under the dash looks like the wiring monkeys have taken over. (Think it has a big alarm system at one time but overall for a truck thats been sitting 4 years It ran and drove home 3 hours without a hickup so cant complain much. So Here it is. 1986 CC Dually. 454/th400 GV O/D. Lowered 5/7. Oh and it needs tires desperatley. LOL

Yeah that was a nice surprise!! The drivers door had a pretty good dent in it that I popped out but still needs some work. Looking for a set of uncut non dented doors for it now. That way I have some mirrors for towing and I dont have to fix dints. LOL

This is my first lowered dually. Really expected it to ride like my 96 dually which if i didnt know better I would swear had the axles directly bolted to the frame. LOL Surprisingly it rides very smooth.

Welcome to the Bortherhood of the Alcoas, dually chapter. You'll learn the secret handshake later. Its a great club, we just don't allow Scoti at our meetings.

The rears will have their stampings visible on the lip, name (alcoa), dot, size, maybe loading information.

LOVE the GMT-400 cab lights on squares. That is a great looking truck, would love to find one similar, a couple years from now. Congrats! Looking forward to a build/update thread on it.

They are Alcoa's. Its stamped in the rim. I was curious about the tire size. Mine are clearly to small on the rear and I need new front ones as well. On a side note I got the Dual tanks fixed tonight. Just needed a new dash switch. I am curious about polishing back to their original luster though.. Center caps Im pretty sure are ebay cheapies. Their not marked but I haven't pulled them off yet.

Yeah thats alot of work. LOL Thatll be last on the list if the old chrome polish and powerball trick dont do it. Got a few other more important things to take care of first. Got the dual tanks working last night. It was just the dash switch fortunatley.

Alcoa still sells new center caps. Southwest Wheel is the main Alcoa distributor in the US. Not cheap, but if it was, everybody would be a pimp. You're looking at about 85 dollars for a new set delivered to your door. Mine were a little higher since I'm in Texas and had to pay an additional 6 bucks sales tax.

I was wondering if you had to use the type that is on a flange that is held on by the lug nuts. Though that was ugly and stupid. 85$ isnt bad i think thats about what the evil bay cheapies are going for. Thanks!!

Re: My New Ride. 1986 Crew Cab Dually

The flanged lugnuts are what holds them on. They aren't rear loading center caps, they're front mount. You hold the cap in place as you install the lugnuts. The flanges on the nuts press the cap into place. It's an entire system, you have to use their flanged lugnuts and center caps both. Thankfully my wheels came with a set of serviceable lugnuts and I only needed caps. The lugnuts are an additional 3 bucks each (x32 nuts). It seems like 100 dollar bills just vaporize nowadays when building trucks.

Alcoa flanged two-piece lugnuts.

Then, you pop the little chrome caps onto the lugnuts after they're all torqued down. The chrome caps ? Another 3 bucks each times 32 nuts. Hundred dollar bill.....

Thanks!! I like it so far. Will like it even more when its more drivable!! LOL

Tx I think mine still has the flanged lugnuts on the caps on there now. Hopefully anyway. I only glanced at them when i was washing them. The caps on there now are like these and are rusted pretty badly.
