Smile Formal Introduction and new project

I wanted to officially say hello to everyone, I've been lurking around the forum for awhile and posted a few comments here and there but until now I didn't really have a project. I just pulled my grandpa's 86 GMC over in front of the shop and washed the engine and transmission and everything off so that I can start working on it hopefully thanksgiving week. It's a unique pickup for two reasons, one is the paint job he had put on after it was wrecked in 91, the other is the tilt hood that he built because in the later years of his life he couldn't reach over the fenders to work on anything, so he made a very accessible and I think good looking tilt hood. THis hasn't been run much in the last ten years, he died in 03 and my dad and I kept it running a couple times a month, but then on one of our drives it made a big clunk and broke either the torque converter bolts, the end of the crankshaft off, or one of the planetaries in the transmission, so hopefully figure out which problem occurred and go from there.

I forgot to mention it's a 6.2 and 700r4, 373 rear end, 2wd 1/2 ton. fairly rare being a 2wd half ton diesel.

I agree, I hope it's not terribly expensive, but we can do everything ourselves so it costs less than having someone else do it.

The paint job is clear coated so with a good wax it'll shine right up, it's just got a case of sitting around filth and oxidation going on. The shell will probably get taken off I never liked the way it looked.

Thanks for the welcome to the forum, glad to be here
