Is this truck worth the effort?
Alright guys my grandpa got a truck in at the wrecking yard and he was going to part it but my dad wouldn't let him before he checked it out. It's a 72 3/4 ton with numbers matching big block. The interior has been messed with a little but it's a fairly unmolested truck. The rockers and cab corners are rust free but there is rust above the windshield which seems odd to me. From what I can tell its a custom deluxe, big block, ac highlander with olive/dark olive paint. I'm not expert that's why I'm posting this but that sounds like a pretty sweet option package to me. Now if we were to take on this project it would have to get transported from Northern California to North Carolina but I think it might be worth it. What do you guys think?

I like it, nice little project. Where is his yard at? Real wrecking yards are hard to find.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
Worth saving but not worth shipping. They sure messed up the bedside when they dropped that axle in it.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
looks like a great truck to make a swb. it probably lived by the beach at some point those cars rust from the top down. my blazer came from santa Barbra and it had rust on the top of the fenders but the bottom was perfect.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
Definitely worth saving! There's nothing like a big block chevy truck. Bring it back to its original glory. Or better yet, make it a cooler bb swb 1/2 ton sport truck. Either way, dont let it go to the crusher. Have fun with it.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
Thanks for the responses guys. The truck won't be crushed don't worry. It'll either get parted out or stashed away and eventually brought to the east coast. My dad originally wanted to do a swb conversion but I'd almost feel guilty taking this sweet truck and trying to pass it for a swb. If it was mine I'd do a factory restoration on it. Imagine how sweet this thing looked new, dark olive roof, med olive body with white highlander interior. Plus a big block under the hood to boot!! Has anyone ever seen a 3/4 ton big block highlander before? All the ones I've seen were 1/2 tons

I am no expert. I have never seen a 3/4 ton highlander. I also wonder if they made 1/2 to. Swb highlanders (?)

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
Highlander savings packages (YG6-YG8) and the Highlander plaid trim upgrade were offered on 72 10-30s in conjunction with the Z62 Custom Deluxe trim. Know of several Highlander C20s and C20 Longhorns, even a C30 Longhorn Highlander so they do exist just not very common. Additionally Highlander Suburbans and Blazers were offered as were GMCs with the plaid trim upgrade. Curiously a number of the remaining trucks are white with the parchment and plaid interior.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
Some SPIDs. A C10 SWB in a unique color combo, a GMC 1500, and a C30 Longhorn Highlander. Plus a couple of detail pictures of a white and orange plaid C20 Longhorn Highlander.

Re: Is this truck worth the effort?
I cant believe someone would throw away such a good vehicle. Dam kids probably threw out grandpas truck because no one knew how to hook their mp3(or whatever) to the sound system, or that you have to pump the gas pedal twice to set the choke so it will start in the morning.
PS. Shipping will be less expensive to New Mexico.....
