What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I need some help deciding what radiator to use in my 65. I am putting a 5.3 and 4l60e out of a 2000 silverado. Post some pics and ideas.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I just used my stock radiator in my '72. A set of 2005 Silverado coolant hoses plumbed right up - except I had to shorten the lower hose about an inch on each end.

Thanks for the input. My truck did not come with a radiator so I will have to buy one.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I used an Entropy on my swap in my Jimmy and am happy with it. Here is a link to their 63-66 radiators.

Hey Clyde65 I was wondering if you had any pics of your radiator. Looks like champion might be a little cheaper.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I'm doing it on the cheap because I can fab things and because I have a pair of Spal fans already. This is the radiator I plan to use:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gr...make/chevrolet and I might be getting it cheaper now that my work has a wholesale account with A tech which is part of Summit.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I don't have a picture right now, but it fits in the stock location with the stock mounts, you will need to trim the runmbber just a bit because the champion is more square that a stock one.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
Thanks for the information. Does yours have a shroud and electric fan?

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
No, I dont have a shroud but I do have two 11" electric fans that came with the radiator. One is on when temp reaches 195 and the other comes on when AC is turned on or it reaches 210. both are pullers.
I found a couple pictures, I hope this helps...

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
I ordered one off of ebay to fit an 02 vette, it has oil and trans cooler and warrenty for 100$ not a direct fit but easy to fab two brackets out of aluminum strap to hold top two screws hold bottom. And im running a dual fan set off a v6 camaro wich i got for 20 bucks at the salvage along with a coolant overflow tank off a 02 cavileer. My truck idles at 197 on a hot day.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
you can see from the pic that there is two plastic tits on the top that I made simple brackets to hold down and in place. there are two more just like that on the bottom and they are hollow. so I drilled two holes through the bottom of the support and then put 1/2" #8 screws with nuts and lock washers through them that stick up. I just slid the bottom tits over the screws and then locked the top in place. the Camaro fans are the exact size to fit the vette radiator there is like one small plastic piece that needs to be trimmed for them to attach and they are mounted pretty much like gm made them for the radiator. I trimmed the lip off my support so the radiator would sit further forward but only to clear the air cleaner. you may not need that. top hose is a stock truck hose (4.8/5.3/6.0) bottom I will have to look at the # but it is like a 1 1/2 on the pump side and 1 9/32 on the radiator side. these pics are old but I now have my steam hose tee'd in between rad and bottle. and I have a hose from 5/8 wp (heater core outlet) up to bottle back to the 3/4 side of wp(hco). I understand yours is an earlier year model but I bet it could be made to work fairly simple...

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
That is a clean install. Thanks again. I am not sure if there is room under the hood of my 65 or not. I am keeping my inner fenders. I will have to measure to make sure there is enough room.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
well those tits are about an inch tall another way to mount it would be drill 1/2 holes through the bottom that the tits could drop through then cut the top ones off and run a flat c syle clamp to save a few inches. this radiator is a little shorter and about 6-8" narrower than the stocker (67-72) and only about 2" thick. measurements are on the web site. I went this rout so I did not have to run separate coolers or block off to get it running. and if found that the stockers are good enough. with fans installed its probably not much thicker than a stocker. lol ill try and get some more pics for ya

I saw that, I would call them and ask if you could get dual 11" fans.

Re: What radiator to use in 65 chevy ls swap
nope, that's brand new.
I used a griffin for a ls-swapped 69 camaro. bolted right in just kidding, it took a 3-4 hours fab works and parts store running. both water outlets are on the pass side so no long hose runs and lots of extra room. |
