Show your roll cages!

Hey there! Looking for different ideas on cage design for our trucks. Especially interested in how the rear bars go through the window/cab of the truck and tie into the frame. Also how the front bars come through the firewall and tie into the front portion of the frame.

Show off your cage and design. More pics the merrier!

thanks
CHRIS

Re: Show your roll cages!

I've searched and think I've seen every pic on here, but would love to see more! I just got my bender and bend tech program to start my cage.

Re: Show your roll cages!

Which Bend Tech software did you get? If you got BT Pro, you can build your entire cage before you ever cut a piece of tube. It can take a little bit to learn the software, but it is very cool for designing tube fabrications. One of the keys to accurate tube bending with Bend Tech is calibrating your dies correctly.

Re: Show your roll cages!

I just got the Bend Tech EZ, because I don't plan to go crazy on my truck and just putting in a 12pt.

What do you mean by ''calibrating your dies''? The bender I've got said they are on a 5'' center line.

Any insight and help will be very appreciated!

Re: Show your roll cages!

You will have to perform the steps necessary to calibrate your die, in your bender. When you do this, that will give you the info the software needs in order to give you the info to make exact bends in your tube. You need to do this because every bender and die set can vary. These steps hould be outlined in the owners manual for the software. If not, contact Bend Tech and they will be happy to help you with that info. You will have to have the serial number and some other info for your copy of the software handy to give them.

What brand of bender do you have?

Re: Show your roll cages!

I see, but I haven't installed the program yet and will read more on the prgram before I do. I picked up the Woodward bender and have made a few bends with it and it works well.

Re: Show your roll cages!

I think the Woodward Fab bender is the bender that Mittler Bros used to make.....maybe they still make it, but just for Woodward Fab.

Re: Show your roll cages!

Its is a possibility.... Even if we don't do the cage ourselves I still wanna know what I want and need to be looking for. Looking to stay 8.50s and slower.

Thanks
Chris

I'm surprised you got away without any cross bracing between those rear bars.

Re: Show your roll cages!

I just started on mine so no pics yet, only have the outriggers to tie the frame to the cage installed. I have been fixing the floor pans so that everything is rite before I started the cage work.

Anyone get a cage done without using plastic rear windows cut for clearance?

if the rearward bars are 1 5/8 dia, and mounted to the horizontal section of the main hoop, additional bars are not necessary. If the rearward bars are smaller than 1 5/8 dia, then additional bars are required according to the diameter used.

You'd have to build it to the roadster spec to eliminate the rearward bars from a main hoop configured roll cage. Otherwise, if you use a traditional roll cage with main hoop, you'll have to run rearward bars and then will end up passing through the rear window or cab itself.
