Heater AC question

I'm fixing up a 68 for my son and it came with ac but I don't have everything to make it ac again. So right now we are just wanting to set it up for heating but later finish the ac. So do I need a heater core without ac or can I go ahead and get it with ac?

The heater cores are different, so you will need a "with A/C" core.

i had the same thing in my truck. all the heat was there, ac was missing parts, rotted out, so it was toast. im going with the vintage heat and ac. seems to me its much easier to install then going back with the old.

I just removed a working heater set up from my 72. I'm installing a Vintage air set up and won't be needing it. If you're interested let me know and we'll work something out.

As 48richard points out, AC and non-AC heaters are different.

For what its worth, I converted my cab from a factory non-AC system to a factory AC system. The "with AC" factory system heater is WAY hotter than the factory non-AC heater. I don't know why. It could be because the heater core on the AC truck is on the inside of the firewall. It could be - if my memory is correct - that the AC heater core is a little thicker than the non-AC one. Or it could be a combination of both.

Long story short I'd stick with the factory AC system and look to restoring the AC part in the future. When I did mine I made it compatible with R134a. With the small cab space to cool, the less efficient R134a works fine.
