water pump /pulley bolt??
HI
Trying to find some bolts that go into the lower pulley on my 76 chevy motor and cant find them anywhere local. I have two bolts but of course need 4. Here is a pic. anyone know where I could grab them locally or is it a hunt in a junkyard. Would like to know the size so i have it for reference. Sure appreciate the help. |

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
Your question isn't clear. In the title you mention water pump but in the question you mention "lower pulley"
The water pump pulley uses 5/16 bolts while the crank pulley uses 3/8 bolts. Which one are you looking for ?

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
its the bolt that goes into the pulley. sorry for confusion. It used to have a fan on it but i removed for a different setup so now I need to find shorter bolts as pictured. The threads on these and the end are such that I cant find any available in auto stores.
thanks |

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
That's a normal 5/16 fine thread bolt.
Look at hardware stores for 5/16-24 by however long you need. Its a very common bolt.

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
Go to a hardware store, take your old bolt to match thread and get a 5/16 grade 5 whatever length

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
hmm ive tried that. seems the end is tapered while the ones from the stores are not with threads to the end. So when it goes through the pulley I believe it is an issue. Its been a bit since I tried finding the bolt but i know the ones from ace and tractor supply didnt thread in at all. Didnt want to force it.

Re: water pump /pulley bolt??
You need to run a tap through the water pump holes then. An off the shelf 5/16 UNF bolt should screw right in place.

all Chevy Engines. If no luck any of the Corvette/Camaro catalogs will have tons of them. Larry P.S. Should be easy find at any auto junkyard. |
