possible street/strip 73 step side project
Going to look at a clean 73 stepside this weekend. Sold my 65 427 chevelle last week and already iching for another toy. So I found a 6.0 LS engine local and a couple 454 bbc`s for cheap. Looking to run low 12`s-high 11`s. Got a few questions. Never tried to make a heavy truck run this fast before so what kind of HP and I looking for here? Pretty easy to get 500hp from 454`s these day, more if you go with aftermarket heads and a roller cam. Dont know anything about the LS series of engines so what would it take for a 2003 6.0 with a carb conversion to run this fast? Can I do it with just a camshaft or will I need head work and more compression? Not sure what version the 6.0 is. And last, how big of a tire can I fit on a step side? Dont really want to cut into the bed but will if I have to. Plan on cal tracs but dont know what else to do with the suspension on one of these trucks, use to chevelles and el caminos.

Thanks for the reply. I`d be happy with those times. Maybe I should just do a sbc, lighter weight and a little cheaper than the bbc. Miss my old 83 c10 so looking forward to getting another square body but want some muscle this time around.

I would go with the bbc. Can go milder then a sbc and build the same or more power. Plus the torque of a bbc is hard to beat, especially for street driving. The 6.0 would work good as well. Ls motors don't take much to build crazy power and pays ate getting easier to come by.
