New bumper and receiver
On my 64 C10 LWB, I had an old step bumper that was fine but it had the wrong brackets and it never sat right. I still wanted the ability to tow and still wanted to look good. Misterc installed a 67-72 bumper on his and I really liked the look. After a ton of questions and extra pictures provided by misterc, I ordered the 67-72 fleet bumper and brackets. Sharps40 had did a write up on installing a universal receiver from Reese. While Sharps sat too low for me (I really wanted it hidden) the kit was universal enough that it should just work. The end result was a great looking bumper and a hidden receiver. My last step will be to get a spring loaded license plate frame so I don't have to remove the plate to tow.

Re: New bumper and receiver
Here is a side picture of the hitch install. It was kind of like a puzzle flipping and moving stuff but it fit great.
The bumper tips needed a little trim to make them look better (thanks misterc) The end result outside.

Re: New bumper and receiver
Looks fantastic, bud. Great work! I need to get a hitch on mine to tow my boat. I may have to go the same route.

Re: New bumper and receiver
I really like the look of the 67-72 bumper.
Your hitch setup is exactly what I'd want to do. Great job. And thanks for sharing.

Re: New bumper and receiver
That turned out awesome, Eric! Nice and subtle, I like it.
It's funny, this mod is on my "to-do" list for my '64. Thanks for all of the excellent pictures. I have put this thread in my Favorites for reference later. I might be picking your brain on the details when it's time to do mine.

Re: New bumper and receiver
Thanks for the positive comments.
Alex- If I did it again I would move it forward another 1/2" so that the lic plate can sit flat. And I'm sure the mounts could be trimmed so there is no excess but when its installed I can't see it. Between the kids and the farm there is never enough time!

Re: New bumper and receiver
Love it! That bumper is so much better than the 60-66 bumper. Great job on the receiver install, too.

Re: New bumper and receiver
Just added this to my to do list. I was getting ready to order a 60-66 rear bumper this month and will change to this. I think I'll do a flip down license bracket though. Looks like it was made for our trucks.

Re: New bumper and receiver
Finally got some time to work on this a bit more. While I was in California I picked up a spring loaded license plate holder at Pomona Swap Meet. $10....man I miss being able to go to Pomona whenever I want.
It's even a GM part.....not sure what it came off of. Ran into an issue of the plate being too far out when the drawbar I had was installed so I bought an extended drawbar. This allows the plate to rest on it and I did not have to make a system to hold the plate up. The extended drawbar is rated for much more weight than this truck will ever see. The extended drawbar is a Curt product. $23 from Jegs with free shipping.

Re: New bumper and receiver
I can state with a good degree of certainty that the plate flip mount is GM full size RWD, 70s-early 90s. Caprice, Fleetwood Brougham, etc.

Re: New bumper and receiver
could you have used the old bumper and the hitch would have still fit? I would like to keep the old step bumper but have the hitch come through the flat part of the bumper
