door locking/latch problem? few questions

so i put new locks and latch relays in my truck the other day. the driver side door has been missing missing the pawl since i got it..so i was hoping the lock would work right once i replaced it

but no, the drivers door will not completely lock, but the passenger side does. The pin goes down about half as far as the passenger side one does.

Are you not supposed to be able to open the door from the inside with the door locked? also if i lock the door and close it the door comes unlocked..also normal?

i was planning to put new latches in anyways so if that should fix my problem then cool, but i didnt know if there was adjustment or anything like that

thanks

If you push on the drivers door while you lock it with the key will it lock completely?

You have to pull the lock knob up before you can open the door from the inside, and you have to lock the door from the outside with the key.

Use some PB Blaster or similar on the door lock and latch first. You can get to it through the window channel with the window rolled down. If it still doesn't want to cooperate try moving the striker plate out a bit. Be sure and mark around it with a fine felt tip marker first so you can tell how far you have moved it. Only go about 1/16" at a time and don't let it move up or down, just out. It shouldn't take much if that's the problem.
