Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
If this isn't an ok thread then the mods can close it. I have been looking for a 4x4 1 ton dually for a while. It doesn't seem like they exist. I would like a standard, but would except auto, would also like a regular pickup not a dump, would also like one that never had a plow on it. Why does that seem to be impossible? Oh and I would like it to be somewhat local. I would prefer to not ship one from way out west somewhere.
Thanks, Jon

2wd's are a dime a dozen around here but 4wd's seem few and far between and when you find one they want a mint for it even if its a rust bucket. Good luck on your search. I use searchtempest alot.

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
I just did the searchtempest thing before posting. There wasn't anything within 250 miles that fit my parameters. All had plows or where dumps or both. I have seen a couple out west, but hate to ship it. If you are serious about driving one check your local craigslist for me please.
Thanks, Jon

I'm an avid truck watcher. I see them all. On the roads, behind the barns, I never miss them.
I can say for sure, I've seen less than a dozen 4x4 dually square bodies in the last then years here in Texas. They're just rare. I see at least one 2wd per day but not 4x4.

This one is about 600 miles from you. If I didn't already have one I would be looking at this one. And its a five speed.

600 miles is definitely further than I was looking. Might be worth it for that price. Pretty darn cool looking rig.

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
4x4, 1 ton dually pick-up that never had a plow... in the snow belt...
Reason they seem impossible is most considered their truck a tool, and when they went shopping they were looking for a piece of equipment to be used and make money with. Dealers realized this, plow packages were offered that knocked the price down. (read the dealership adds in the paper. Odds are, the plow package pick ups are cheaper than a straight 4x4.) C+C deals were the same way. Not saying they're not out there, but it may take a little more effort to find what you want.

4wd's get dirtier and therefore rust out sooner!

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
You must be some sort of kin to my BIL, oldwagon, here on the board. He is of the "bigger is better" crowd. Couple years ago he bought a '83 1 ton dually, 454, 4 speed, 4x4 with standard cab. Lots of rust, it was a farm truck here in the Kansas flatlands but it is what he wanted. Found it in a local car/truck for sale magazine. His wife called it "a rusted out POS" but it was what he wanted. So far we've changed the dually bed, he has another front clip for it to switch out. Needs cab rockers and more but don't think you can put a load behind it that it won't pull. They are out there but even here in the farm belt where people used them they are not plentiful. He jumped on it like a hen on a June bug as the saying goes. Keep looking, they are there, just not as many as the 2wd. Good luck.

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
David here from Allentown pa. Fifteen or more yrs ago I saw a 79 Chevy Regular Cab duallie for sale in a paper. It was at a dealer some 50 miles from me, I was there in two hours with tags and ins. and cash. Wife thought I was nuts. I still drive it daily. Frame off restoration some 10 or better yrs ago. I can't say that I ever have seen an other one around here. Wish I would see another one.

Too bad I'm 3000 miles away. There's a 78 big block 4x4 dually sitting in my front yard. Never had a plow. It was used to haul a huge travel trailer.

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
I wanted a round eye crew dually 4x4 , took 2 years of extensive looking. My only advice to you is distance is nothing, if you find the right truck jump on a plane and drive it home. I finally found mine in Cali which is a long way from Regina sask. throw in an international border and it was still all worth it! Also trailered home an old flat fender power wagon a few months ago that was a 31 hour drive, but always worth it if you find something you love.

Even at auctions they are getting few and far between. 87 K30 dually pickup with versalift brought $1314 but needed work. The 88 V30 brought $7790. and it had LOW miles.

Re: Why can't I find a 1 ton dually 4x4 locally?
Board member "Dooley" might still have his for sale. If there was a truck out there that I want then this is probably it. Low miled and probably untouched for the most part. It is an automatic though and not sure where he lives. I would love to have it but the price is too steep for me right now.

Out in Cali but for the price shipping could be an option here.

Someone needs to buy this before I do. Not usually a fan of flat beds but this has retro 70's written all over it. You could definitely do the drive to and from PA in one day too.
