Is there anyone building a CC dually thats not cut up or dropped?

Seems every thread is cutting up a truck and making a short bed, or dropping it into the weeds.. I do enjoy those trucks, but are there any that are not hacking these trucks up?
I'm building a 1988 Crew Cab Dually back to its original glory, minus the modern more powerful power plant. 6.0/4l80e with a single turbo.

Anyone else? I'm more interested in the Crew Cab Dually trucks.

So tell me about your truck.

Thanks

Re: Is there anyone building a CC dually thats not cut up or dropped?

So you're commenting on guys that shorten or lower the exterior of their CC dually as 'hacking up' a truck but perfectly ok w/dumping the nostalgic drivetrain? Seems like each is a mod that could be categorized as 'personal taste' vs 'hacking'.

My CC is cut up but will look stock..... ish. The exterior panels are as shipped from GM including the 25yr old paint. The rolling stock is vintage 80's GM. The BBC that originally came w/the truck still resides between the rails but it doesn't look like the generic, late 80's, GM emissions-overloaded products of that period (more like early 70's BBC) but it's still TBI. The th400 is muscled up to let you know gear changes are occuring regardless of throttle position & the exhuast despite being tucked above the rails won't be missed. The biggest departure from OE is the ride height & quality. It will sit a lot lower & ride a lot better than stock while still maintaining full capacity.

I guess that's the main reason why my truck was modified.... I wanted no compromise in strength along w/better ride quality (and lower altitude) so the frame rails had to be cut/raised.

Maybe someday in the future I'll yank the bed off again & shorten it up just because I like the short bed proportions better. I might even yank the drivetrain & install something new GEN.

Variety is the spice of life.

Take is personal. Don't care..
There is a difference in "hacking", "modified", and "upgrading"..

There's not many CC long beds left, seems every other thread is hacking one up..

I'm good with variety. As stated in my first post, I do enjoy those trucks. Just asked if anyone was keeping to the original style.

It's not the suspension that ruined your truck Scot. It's when you swapped wheels.

I'm just poking at you. Threads like this don't ever go smoothly so I figured to have some fun.

I'm off to hack up my dually some more....

Re: Is there anyone building a CC dually thats not cut up or dropped?

Mine is going to be pretty much stock with a lower additude. I didn't want to cut the frame cause I will be hauling trailers and a camper. Drivetrain is still stock with the addition of the Gear venders overdrive. Might upgrade the engine at some point but will still be a bbc. Got another set of front doors so I can get my mirrors back Just need to get them painted.

Thats a nice truck...

Tx Firefighter. I knew that if I didn't specify, the thread would be filled with short bed dually conversions.. I wasn't trying to step on toes, but if people take it personal so be it.. Just trying to get some idea's on what other people are doing.

EDIT: I guess I should explain "hacking". Here, if its chopped, sectioned, or body dropped, its hacked.. NOT BOTCHED, but hacked.. Ya know, hack off the roof, hack off 12'' of the bed, etc.... Again, I like those trucks. Some are just awesome...

Re: Is there anyone building a CC dually thats not cut up or dropped?

I'm not offended in any way. I work for my cash, I build my trucks with it, I please myself with the results. No one on the Internet figures into that. I'm here to learn, periodically to teach, and to hang out with folks I know.

I learned years ago to not get bent over what an Internet stranger thinks or says. If I can't take anything positive away from a post or thread, I just click the back button and try again on another thread or try to have a little fun somehow.

Re: Is there anyone building a CC dually thats not cut up or dropped?

I have a 77 C3500 GMC. Plans are a "shoulda been built" truck. 19.5's 4x4 conversion, diesel, manual trans and an interior/ exterior "theme" package. Yes it's going up and will retain the 8' bed.

You only have 30 mins to edit from the time of making the post. I think you get more time if you're a forum subscriber....

I'd be willing to wager a weeks pay that there are far more long bed duallys than there are short beds LoL..... I've seen a few threads where a build incorporated removing a foot or 2. The rest don't touch the length. Many do opt to lower their trucks but that's a common mod regardless of GVW capacity.

You have a nice start for sure....

No build thread because I was in the middle of another build thread on my 64 & didn't want 2. I also suffered domestic implosion that stretched the duration of the build but ultimately made it what I wanted vs what I would 'live' with.
