Dana 44. What am I doing wrong?
I'm putting my first Dana 44 together and I had new moog ball joints installed. So I put my knuckle on and torqued it down to 50 lbs and then 100 lbs. when I was finished I could not move the knuckle at all. I have to be doing something wrong. Please help.

You torqued the seat to 50 ft/lbs with the 4 prong socket?
You should be able to move the knuckle easily.

I never messed with the sleeve. Is that what your talking about? I torqued them down and I can move them but they are very stiff. Is that normal? Or should it be easy to rotate the knuckle. Sorry I don't have any pics.

If you preloaded the upper threaded sleeve too much or too little it could be putting undo compression or tension on the ball joints.

Ok so from what I understand I need to put the knuckle on and torque the lower first and then torque the spanner down to 50lbs? And then the upper to 50 and then 100. First I didn't mess with the spanners at all so I'll take the old ones out and I tall the new ones. Is this the right way to do this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is a special socket for the ball joint seat. With a little work, you can make one from an old socket.

You torque the lower first to 80, with the spanner loose or removed. Tighten the spanner, books say 50 but I just pull it down snug with a ratchet....with anti seize on the threads, then I torque the very top nut to 100, then line up with a cotter hole. done
