Bought a 53 last week

At least that's what the title says, but the 1 piece windshield and flat bed rails tell me its a 54??? Its got terrible purple paint, but its very solid and complete. My plans are to remove the purple and repaint it some kind of patina look. I also want to get it riding a little lower, maybe a dropped axle and rear blocks. Any paint ideas.... tell me what you guys think.

Looks good to me! Maybe go with a dark metallic purple or blue?

Re: Bought a 53 last week

Welcome to the site, looks to be a nice complete truck. Never know what you’ll find under the paint. Hopefully you won’t find too many surprises. If you like an original faded look, the early chevy green I think is a good choice.
The cab and bed indicate 54.

Good luck with the build.

Re: Bought a 53 last week

I'm currently sanding away. Plenty of dents, but basically no rust at all, happy about that. No real colors underneath that I can salvage, so I'll have to come up with a fake patina job.

Nice project. About the year, My Dad has a 1955 Chevy 210 Delray. I bought him a pair of vintage 1955 tags for him to register on his car. When he took the tags to have them registered, the DMV told him he couldn't use them because his car was titled as a 1954. After some research, he found the car was one of the first 1955's off the line. Check your vin number and see if it's a low number.

That's a pretty good point, I'll have to look into that. Thanks
