65 Buick Skylark

Due to the deaths of my wife's uncle and aunt, there was a 65 Skylark that needed a home. When my father heard it was available, he got it for a song. Next thing I know it's sitting in my backyard and I'm commissioned by the old man to get it "fixed up".

Here are some pics of it at my in-law's in Escondido, CA.

Not much planned, going Chevy 350/350, update the suspension, get the bodywork and paint done, and of course an interior redo. It will be slow going, but thought I'd post up here to keep myself on track and chart the progress.

Re: 65 Buick Skylark

I can't wait to see what you do with it. I love Buicks and yours would be a welcomed addition to my affliction. Sorry for your loss. Keep us updated on your progress.

Here is a small picture of the '65 Buick Skylark Grand Sport I bought new. Red with an all white interior. I think I have another one of it somewhere around here...

Edit: Found two more. That's my buddy's dad standing next to it...

Looks like a nailhead in there now? Why the Chevy plant is the Buick engine wore out?
Love 65!

That Buick nailhead will surprise you. Don't give up on it unless it is not rebuildable. It is a torque monster right from the factory and there are good upgrade parts available. But it is your car, so enjoy it and good job on saving it.

That is cool! Great pics! I like the console, this model didn't have it, but I would like to find one that I could throw in this one.

Not a nailhead, just a 300. I wish I could have made Pop Kennedy proud!

Unfortunately the 300 is toast, the victim of blown head gaskets and 12 years of a motor with liquid mud inside it. Since I have a 350sbc/th350 sittin in the garage, well you know...

Load that 300 in your truck, next time your driving in the Seattle area swing it by. I'll help you unload it.
I get the Chevy swap. It'll be more fun having a moving Chevy powered Buick than a non running Buick powered Buick.

If it were mine it would get a Olds engine because thats what I have.

Looking forward to updates!

At the time I didn't know how well it would fit in the Volvo wagon. Live and learn!

Re: 65 Buick Skylark

Sorry about the circumstances, but it good to see that one saved. I've had Buicks off and on since 1987. This one followed me home in August. I'll be watching your resto.

The second pic has the '68 in the midst of its cross-memberectomy. All is well now with fresh suspension pieces and power disk brakes.

Re: 65 Buick Skylark

I love these 'Larks. My first one I picked up for a couple hundred bucks in high school, cleaned it up, and repainted it. It took me to college. I found my second one while in college. It was the mid range version (not a GS), but had the high output 300 ci V8 with factory 4-brl carb. Loved it. Sold it to some German rock climbers after college in '94who loved the huge trunk for their gear. Now I wish I still had it.
