Fender mount gas filler

Been looking up past threads for ideas on mounting a gas filler for my under bed mounted 20 gallon Mustang tank. I found a picture of Kid's great truck. His fender mounted gas filler without the usual gas filler door looks GREAT!

Does any one know what filler neck and cap was used?

Not exactly sure who's truck you are asking about. There are plenty of options for what you are thinking of though.

Re: Fender mount gas filler

You will need some bends but the 1TN from Tanks Inc is the neck, TC is the cap and either a GR2 or GR4 for the grommet. I think your 20 gallon tank has the filler to far back to make that work. If it was a 16 or 18 with the filler on top is may work correctly but the 20 is pretty much a back fill only.

This is a link to a photo of Kid's pickup showing his fender mounted filler. This is what I want to use on my 48 5 window using a 1969 Mustang 20 gallon tank. I have removed the center fill spout and welded on a side fill neck filler tube. This tank fits perfect.

Then you just need the parts above with either a steel elbow or a rubber elbow

Re: Fender mount gas filler

If that's the same truck I'm thinking of, I was under the impression he used the stock filler neck and grommet from the old truck and used elbows etc to make it work.

I'd say that is exactly what he did. The gromet appears stock and I'd bet dollars to donuts that he at least used some of the stock filler neck. It looks like it came that way rather than being an add on.

Can't help you with the Gray Dan but it sure looks good.

Re: Fender mount gas filler

In case you didn't notice from my pictures, I used the flange that I cut out from the front hole and welded it in the new rear hole.

I cut my patch up front from one my old cab corners that I'm replacing. There's a perfect contour from within the cut-out cab corner.

I used my stock filler neck but had to weld a pretty sharp angled extension on it to make the angles right for reaching my tank from the rear fender.

I was going to suggest cutting the patch from an old cab to get the rolled over lip for the grommet to fit on right but your photos show exactly why you want to do it that way.
I like it that you did it so it looks like it could have come that way from the factory just as the gray AD truck was done.

Re: Fender mount gas filler

very nice work roger55
i so wish i had mounted my gas filler up top of the fender instead of in the middle
it looked so natural when i welded it in (sitting a foot off the ground on jack stands)

Some help you'd be, it's light green! I guess you're a bit color blind, huh?

Kid PM'd me with the color name. I'd post it but I don't know if he wants that done or not.

Re: Fender mount gas filler

My plan is to use one of these. We bought a flat one that I think will work but I really haven't gotten to installing it yet.

Re: Fender mount gas filler

I cut the fuel door and filler neck from a panel truck and welded it into the rear fender. Worked out really well for me. Not sure what year truck the op is working on.
