1971 C30 Stepside
I just obtained a 1971 C30 Stepside with my daughter and am starting a restoration. I want the truck to stay original but am having NO luck in finding any info to help guide me in doing a historic rebuild. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
Welcome.
Here is the generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center archive for a '71 Chevy pickup. This will give you a nice overview from the factory's perspective on option content and availability. K http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs...olet-Truck.pdf

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
The longhorns were fleet and 8 1/2 feet. I think the c-30 step in question may be a 9 foot bed. Not very common...

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
So the C-30 could be 8 or 9' bed?

The '71 C 30 pickup was only available as an 9' stepside.

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
DAMMIT! I guess I should read my own documents....
C30 Stepper was a 9 foot bed (108"). Sorry for the confusion. K

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
C 30 stepsides are not a common site since they had low production numbers. Besides the longer heavier duty frame and bigger brakes, this model shares many common restoration parts with C 20's. Here is an example of a clean C 30.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1253470997

Re: 1971 C30 Stepside
Gentlemen, thank you for the help. I'll get some pics up later today.
It has a 9' bed. The hitch JUST misses my garage door. It took me a while but I finally replaced the brake the system. The rear seals were shot, the adjusters frozen and the previous owner kept driving it unsure of why the drivers side rear wheel kept locking up when he stepped on the brake. I should write a blog on how to replace the rear brakes. The repair books say " remove brakes", that's a big help. Mine would, start, " drink two beers of your choice, hit your self in the head with a hammer two or three times, drink two more beers and call a mechanic." Did you know you have to remove the axles to get the drums off !? Luckily I have a little shade tree experience and took pictures before I started, slowly removed everything with a bolt and wiggled and jiggled and used the hammer sparingly. NAPA Auto Parts and I have started a mutually beneficial relationship. I figure to just direct deposit 25% my paycheck directly to their cash register. My son flies back to Okinawa in a few hours, afterwards I'll get some pics up. Semper Fi |
