CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT HELP??? 3 speed...
My clutch has to be let almost all the way out or to the top before it engages and i would like it to grab more down low or at the bottom. Can someone give me a run down on how to adjust the clutch. Mine seems to grind a lot more than normal like the clutch isn't engaging like it use to when i up or down shift???
Truck is a stock 53' Chevy 216 w/ 3 on the tree... Thanks for any help or advise you can offer on this issue!!! |

Re: CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT HELP??? 3 speed...
if your grinding and engaging at the top of your pedal, your clutch is out of adjustment.
there should be 3/4'' free play in your pedal at the top end. you have a clutch pedal, adjustable rod and clutch fork; not many parts to discuss. adjust the rod until you have the 3/4'' free play at the top of the pedal. the free play at the top is to make sure your fully engaged on the clutch and have no load on the throw out bearing. once your out of free play the throw out bearing is constantly spinning at motor speed. engaging too low can make the gears grind from the clutch not fully disengaging. normal wear on the clutch disk brings the pedal higher and looses the free play.

Here's a pic that should help. You adjust the clutch with the threaded part of the linkage that is labeled "offset rod"..
