GM's 14 bolts.

I have a 74 C20, and I need to get a better gear ratio.

I know the 9.5 14 bolts have 3.42 gears, but how common are they? Or are they still more common with the 4.11's?

Also which trucks would be most likely to have 3.42's at the pick a part.

Re: GM's 14 bolts.

3.42's are the 'standard' 9 1/2 rear. look for light (low GVW) 3/4 tons. Mine is an 81 8200GVW. Remeber, these trucks are old, and a lot of them have had axle swaps - best bet is to check the ratio by pulling the cover or spinning the axle.

Re: GM's 14 bolts.

I am in Chino Hills Ca which is a drive to TN.

Also I want the smaller 14 bolt for many reasons, and it is tough enough for what I do.
