WTB 16.5 wheels in Texas

I've got a 72 C-20 Custom Camper and am looking for a set of 16.5 factory wheels to go with the center caps I've got. Don't want to spend a fortune on shipping, so unless you are giving them away, I would prefer some where in Texas. Thank you .

Re: WTB 16.5 wheels in Texas

If you run into trouble finding the 16.5's, 73-87 C20/30 8 lugger steelies will fit also and the caps pop on the same way - much easier to find than 16.5s and some will argue that there are more tire options for 16s. I converted to 16's on my 72, but kept the 16.5s on my 71 (Both wear Firestone TransForce HTs, so tires are available for both, just less options for the 16.5s). Here's a pic for motivation:

Yea, I found a set of 16 in ***d wheels at a local yard, but that little stamp on the wheel made me hold out. I want to go all original, and as I understand it the Custom Campers came with the 16.5 in. Your wheels do look good, though.

Re: WTB 16.5 wheels in Texas

those are 16.5s in the pic above. The 16s were an option on a custom camper (or any C20/30). See attached spid - a 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper (not mine). 2nd pic shows what they look like on the truck. Last pic are the 16s on my 72 C20. No Ford stuff required! BUT, I can tell you that the Ford wheels look just fine. Take Sicklajoie's award winning red CustomCamper20 - they look great.

I totally agree...the 16s look good. I just know that GM recommended that 16.5s be installed. I wonder how common the 16s vs 16.5s were. My SPID doesn't specify what my truck came with. It doesn't specify interior color either? Go figure.

Re: WTB 16.5 wheels in Texas

If you post your SPID, we can help. If you have no tires listed, then you most likely had 16.5s from the factory, 16s were an option I believe. I've never heard of one being recommended over the other by the factory. In fact, the 16.5s are a little more difficult to mount (but still easy for a tire shop). 16s have a much more standard, modern lip and provide a "better" seal in my opinion. Having said that, I've never had a bit of trouble with either wheel size. More brands of tires are available for 16s, but there are tires available for 16.5s.

You can find my SPID at the link located in my signature. When I mentioned that GM suggested 16.5s, I was referring to a factory brochure I read. If I can upload the PDF I will.
