Source for captive (door hinge) nuts

Anyone know of a source to purchase captive nuts with flanges to spot weld into my 56 door jambs?

Haven't measured or checked thread pitch yet, but everything I've found while browsing is too small.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Hey Thumper, if you have a welder you can make your own, if you want. Then you can use whatever size bolts/thread you want. Just cut a square/rectangle metal tab drill a hole in the middle (that will allow the size bolt you want to use to pass through the hole) and weld the nut to the tab.

Original ones i believe are 3/8" fine thread.
I made some out of unistrut nuts. They are 3/8" standard thread. As for the cage I took some tubing and sliced it down the side, drilled a larger hole for the bolt to pass through dropped in the unistrut nut then welded the sliced tubing behind the bolt hole. Just make sure the nut has room to slide a little.

Go to McMaster-Carr website. They call them weld nuts. Click on NUTS then click on WELD NUTS, then scroll down to Easy Align nuts. I used the 3/8x24 steel with steel cage. You have to drill a hole in the jam for the plug weld, hold the nut in place tightly with a short bolt, weld, grind and they look almost factory.

I think this is what you mean.

The only problem with these is they don't have as much adjustment as the originals.
I think the door bolts are 3/8-24 but you should check that.

If you are not striving for originality and you only have one that is bad (like me) they are all accessible from under the fender or after removing the kick panel.

Re: Source for captive (door hinge) nuts

Thanks for all the great ideas folks! Yep, here in the boonies of VT I hadn't found anything locally, and was hoping to save some time by not fabricating.

I use McMaster-Carr and Grainger all the time for stuff at work, but never thought about them- DUHHH.

Thanks

Re: Source for captive (door hinge) nuts

FYI - Grainger gets a lot of their hardware from McMaster-Carr....why pay some middle person to mark it up ?
