I'm considering shortening my '72 lwb to swb. Will a '73-'87 short bed stepside box fit onto a '72 swb w/o too much work? Will the 2 1/2" wheelbase difference cause trouble? Should I just shorten the wheelbase to 117 1/2"?

Re: '72 swb K10

Are you sure the wheelbase difference is in the bed? I would guess the difference is in the cab and fenders. I believe both 67-72 and 73-87 short beds are 6.5'. I could be wrong.

If it was my truck, I would cut it to stock 67-72 dimensions. Then if you ever decide to go to a 67-72 bed, or a future buyer does, you are good.

If you put a 73-87 step bed with 67-72 step fenders it will look very close to stock.
