62ish parts from 1960-2000

I have waited 15 years to get this truck. I have torn it down to the bare frame.

It has a 60 from and cab.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Getting ready to tow my 62 home. I left the 400 pontiac with my step dad for his 55 pontiac chief. I have a newer engine for my truck.

My boys and I taking the truck apart. It is so nice to be able to use the same size wrench to take everything but the hood and door hinges off. I really enjoy my boys helping me.

Hello and to the site!
Great that your boys are engaged and interested in helping you with this, no doubt you are building memories with them that will endure, and perhaps imparting a sense of self reliance upon them.
After all, not every problem with a vehicle needs an expensive trip to the Mechanic Shop.

Hope you keep us in photos of your progress, we are kinda junkies like that

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Hey Ta2Don! My dad lives in Searcy. This truck came from Conway, AR. I have been working on it for about a year and a half. I have stripped it down to the bare frame and sand blasted it. It have been por15 painted and I have finnally started getting it back together. I really just want a good driver. Not to low not to crazy just fun and reliable. I have a 5.3 and matching trans thats going into it.

After the cab removal I have started cutting off all the things that should not be welded to the frame. Sometimes you have to improvise to get a better working angle.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Interesting welds?? The engine mounts for the 400 were welded to the cross member. The bumper had about 7 pieces holding it on. The battery box weighs about 8 pounds and has 1/4 inch all thread as filler. Last but not least is there a goose neck hitch in the back of my coil spring half ton?

I got these from my Stepfather when he picked my truck up for me. It sat next to my friends moms shop for 15 years.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

This stubborn old truck had no good tires and the brakes were locked up so it just didn't want to leave. My stepfather Dick and stepbrother Blake worked really hard to get it home. The last picture is of my best friends mom Joan. She was really happy to have a yard free of broke cars for the first time in 18 years.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

I removed the last 18 inches of the rear frame. There were so many cracks and holes that It was easier to make new pieces. I have the guys at work bend me up some good steel the the exact contour as the frame.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Put the rear end together and rolled the frame out into the sun. I use POL trailing arms and 3 inch drop springs. Still have to get some weight on the truck to weld the plates to the axles, but it rolls!

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

I am getting ready to move so I had to put the cab back on the chassis. It will be there until I get my new house. I found this dolly in the scrap metal bin at work. It worked so well it was like it was purpose built.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

I hung a chain hoist from a 4x4 in the rafters. That made it easy to lift and place the cab. It will sit there until I get my new house.
