Can a 84-87 tilt column be installed in an 83?

I know this can be done but was wondering what the differences between the 2 columns are. If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate any info.

Thanks
Scott

83 has dash mounted wiper switch. 84 and newer use column type of switch.

Yep. Also, dimmer switch in '83 is on the floor, later ones it is part of the multifunction switch. (Signal, Wiper, Cruise, Dimmer)

Thanks guys, understand the differences with the turn signal switch, just wondering if wiring, linkage, etc. will allow the later model column to be installed in an 83?

By virtue of the switches moving around you will have a lot more wiring that connects to the 84+ column. You may have to extend or relocate some of the '83 wiring to reach the '84+ column. The ignition portion didn't change, AFAIR. I feel that a reasonably motivated/experienced person could get a length of harness from the column connector at a junk yard and splice it into their earlier harness.

Cannot comment on linkage, have a 4-speed here.
