Looks like an overdrive 4-speed truck for sale.

Not sure if the option was available in 81 but looks like the shifter knob is the overdrive trans.

With the shifter that far back definitely is not the sm465. Could only be a Saginaw or the O/D a833

Cool truck, but if I bought it that steering wheel would be in the garbage the same day.

I like the paint it makes the emblems pop. I also really like the tailgate/ taillight section.

I would guess it's a 833, looks the same style lever as in my 82 with 833.

Re: Looks like an overdrive 4-speed truck for sale.

Is it a rare or sought after tranny? I know of a truck thats probably going to the scrapper come spring time that had a manual 3 speed with a OD gear in it. I think the truck was a '85 or so 4x4 step side short box

Rare - kinda; sought after - not so much, but probably because not that many people know about them.

They should be sought after, as they are a great shifting little trans (perfect for light duty use instead of the M62/M64 Saginaw, and already comes from the factory with a Hurst floor shifter).

Re: Looks like an overdrive 4-speed truck for sale.

Hard to say; the early A833 (RPO MY6) trans had a round shifter, although they were flat by the time I got mine.

However, that big shift boot and separate trim ring are typically for the M20 (granny gear trans). The MY6 boot tucks under the carpet/mat and does not use a separate trim ring.

That is the correct boot and shifter for '81 with the NP-833 trans. I took one out of an '81 GMC that I am going to use in my '68 C-10 that is identical top that.

Thank you; makes me wonder when they went to the flat stick with the tucked boot...

Swap the steering wheel. Remove rear bumper. TUCK those dangling wires up under the dash. Now take the pix again. Along with the usual rocker/cab mount condition. The visor kills the look most of all. It would dang near be a neat driver w/ a mild rake-drop.

exactly, drop bumper belongs on a 4x4, i like visors, but again on a 4x4, and that steering wheel is AWFUL! truck i bought once had one-totally uncomfortable, cold in the winter, HATED it!
while at it, i would get rid of the Griswold paneling too. other than that, not a bad little chevy

Very cool paint job! Especially the tailgate area is interesting.

Aftermarket. Looks like some kind of upfitter conversion, based on the way they cutout around the fender emblems (so they can install the side decal without removing the emblems).

That's probably the upfitter name in the middle of the tailgate.

Looks like someone put a Daytona shifter in a 3 on the tree to me if you look at the column you can see where the shifter used to be
