Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

what would the stock pinion angle be ? like 10 degrees or less,, and the springs have a clamp on one end holding the leafs together does it matter if that clamp faces forward of the rear housing or behind the rear housing. Thanks

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

The centering pin on lift springs will not be centered between the spring eyes. The 6 and 4 inch lift springs that I have used have had the centering pin located a tad closer to the front spring eye. I don't know if this is the case for a stock leaf pack.

If you are running a rear driveshaft without a CV joint, the angle needs to be split evenly between the transfer case yoke end and axle yoke end. The transfer case output shaft and axle pinion must be be parallel. If you are running a CV joint at the transfer case end of your driveshaft, you need to make the angle at the axle yoke about 0 degrees (can give up to 2 degrees to account for axle wrap under acceleration) while pointing the drieshaft directly at the transfercase yoke and put all of the angle into the CV joint. Follow these guidlines to position your spring perches on your axle before welding, or to shim your existing perches and you will have good results. Good luck.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

This leaf spring is what I was talking about does this clip holder go in that direction i installed mine and it doesn't fit the bracket I reversed it and it works but I had to force it over to mount into the rear shackle. I had to use this picture for reference.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

On lift springs you want the longer side front to push the axle back a lil bit. Should center the axle better. Driveshaft should be within 2 degrees of the tranfer case output. Usually 2 degree negative to help angles under spring wrap
On acceleration.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

Most are offset two inches to help center the axle. The two pairs I've had we're. I guess yours are not set that way. If it had shims on the spring the fatter side goes to the rear to tilt the pinion up. You have lift springs or stock?

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

If these are yours they look backwards. The shim should be bigger end to the rear. I believe on mine the military wrap that holds the springs is To The rear as well. Which also leads me to that your springs are Backwards. They can go on either way as both spring eye bushings have the same size bolt hole.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

If your wrap is at the rear then mine are correct. I just didn't know I just seen this one and thought that was correct.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

Ill look tomorrow but mine have it on both sides I believe. You didn't answer are these lift springs or not? Do they have a shim in the spring pack or a lift block?

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

The springs in the picture you put are backwards. Or at least the lift block is. Every truck is going to be slightly different. If the axle is centered on the spring you should be ok. Just check the ujoint angles and make sure the pinion is pointed slightly at the transfer case.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

I haven't had stock springs in years. I'll do a lil research and see if I can find my stock pics.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

Did some looking around. Seems to be stock springs have the wrap to the front and lift springs have it to the rear. Four four or five of each for comparison.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

Will a 73 blazer 4x4 rear leaf spring fit my 72 perches ? They are the same length.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

I believe both are 2.5 inch wide springs and are similar in arch and length.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

I installed the springs from a 73 blazer but they don't fit the axle perches seem to be about 3/4"- 1" off . I mounted the springs in the hangers then raised the axle to meet the springs, then I did it reverse mounted the springs to the axle would not connect to hangers. I am lost now

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

Measure the width. Should be 2.5 inch wide. They should sit flush with the spring perches. Then the spring plates should have the ubolts flat against the spring perches to either side. If that's not the case then you may have the wrong springs. Did you replace the perches? Pics at this point of what uou have would help a lot.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

I always mount the springs first then lift the axle up to the springs. It's easier to maneuver that way.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Question

I'm not at my truck but I have a one ton 1978 rear in mine now. The 73 and up axles 1/2 and 3/4 ton are 1.5-2 inches wider between the perches than the 69-72.
