How much does a fully assembled door weigh?

Greetings

I need to remove the door on my 1971 C10 and need an approximate weight of a fully assembled door. I plan on supporting the door from below and above (while removing the bolts) but will need to lift/move the door to move it to a table.

thanks
JohnG

Re: How much does a fully assembled door weigh?

I just pulled the drivers side door of my 71 cheyenne. I rolled the window down closed the door, took the bolts of the bottom hinge first then the top, at the pillar not the door. Ya, it ways about 100 lbs. I had to tote that thing about 75 feet, dang I am getting old.

It is a lot lighter than the newer truck doors 99-07. I had a set of each in the paint booth the other day moving the m out and the older ones are quite a bit lighter than the new ones. I am with the above guys bout 100#

A floor jack will make it a lot easier

I used my motorcycle jack and a block of wood under the door to make the job easy. Otherwise, its hard to get the last bolts out and not drop the door. Once its loose you can pick it up and walk with it pretty easy.

I found them unwieldy by myself, I invested in this contraption:

Beware of the narrow wheelbase of your jack though, ask me how I know.

5 8 ft 2X4's,one pair of sawhorse brackets, one ratchet strap.Build an A-frame and hang the ratchet strap from it.Hook the ratchet strap to the window frame.Take up the slack with the ratchet strap.Unbolt door. You can let it down with the ratchet strap or walk the sawhorse over to a table.Reverse procedure to reinstall.I used this method to replace the door hinges so I didn't need to put it on the table.

Thanks for posting that link. I think I'll either buy this or (more likely) make something similar. Great idea!

cheers
