700R4 Question
I have the chance to get a FREE working 700R4. My automatic turbo 350 blew out the clutches, the question i have is would this work? i have 350 engine i know it will bolt in but i was told that the 700r4s are 4 speed and the th350s are 3 speeds so will i need to change the column? i dont have overdrive on my column also. so what do i need to do if it will work?
Thanks

Re: 700R4 Question
i also question this, when I took my truck to my friends shop to get a 700r4 when my th350 blew i asked him would i need a cluster with the overdrive markings and told me no because my overdrive is on all the time or something along those lines but the 700r is a direct bolt on i think, also overdrive really helps on gas! well atleast i noticed that

Re: 700R4 Question
You will not need a new column. You can get a different shift indicator or just know the drive is overdrive 2 is really 3 and so on. I did this with mine earlier in the year when I changed cabs. I did not change columns. The column and cab came from a truck with a th350 that was no good. Make sure when you hook up the shifter both it and the transmission are in the park position. Then you should go through the gears to make sure it shifts through all points.

Re: 700R4 Question
You can still go into 1st. it just won't show it on the indicator until you switch it. (the indicator)

If I wanted ot go to 1st then, yes, I would have ot get a new column but I can't remmeber the last time I ever dropped an automatic into 1st so I did not change the column out. The truck runs just fine with the new 700R4.

Re: 700R4 Question
I changed out my 350 for a 700 many years ago on my 84 truck. I did not get a new column and I could get all four gears with the shifter. You have to loosen the bolt on the shift rod and reposition it, so that you can get everything to match. I then changed the shift indicator to an OD indicator and it worked for many years. I now have a B&M floor shifter for the truck to allow for a lockout so I don't do something like shift into reverse at 60 MPH.
