Show us your receiver hitches!

So I just installed a receiver hitch in my truck.....It is a Class 3 reese hitch. Costed $130.....Reese hitches said that this hitch was only made to go as far back as 1980's....but it bolted right on to my frame using the factory receiver hitch holes! So if your 66 has factory receiver hitch holes on your frame a Class 3 Reese receiver hitch should bolt right on! Please show us your stock or aftermarket hitches as well so we can get ideas and advice! Thanks and hope this helps! T.J.

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

Okay. Mines a 37042...$125 at wallmart....$104 from advance Auto Internet order using code P20 for free shipping and 20% discount.

Good news...Deer hauler (Tow Hitch) is installed in time for the first trip to the Low Country. Keeps the ice and weight down low where me and Dad don't have to lift it up and in or out.

The hitch is Reese, multifit, 6000 lb rated and for Jeeps Cherokees, Astro Vans, Dodge Rams and some Chevy Trucks....it fits a 1965 perfectly and retains the Factory spare tire mount in the factory bolt holes (assuming yer runnin a 225/70R15 like John Lee) and its tucked in and under and not visible when the draw bar is not installed. Nice....like it was made for it.

Now, got this one at Wall Mart but if ya order it from Advance Auto, online with code P20 ya get 20% off and free shipping bringing the delivered price for this good hitch to $104...good price by any measure.

Heres the part number and specs....

Tucks in there pretty nicely and not too many holes to drill, 5 total, 4 in the frame, one in the PS side attachment plate and details below.

Here on the driver side frame horn, three of the four factory holes in the attachment plate can be used....I lined up hole two (carriage bolt head) with the rearmost hole in the frame, drilled holes three and four in the frame and bolted it up...

Here on the passenger side I used the same alignment...but modified attachment plate hole two to allow pass over on the tire carrier bolt.....drilled a new hole two in the attachment plate (right of the tire carrier bolt). This new hole lined up with a rivet in a crossbar....blew out the rivet and replaced it with new bolt in new hole number 2. Drilled the frame for holes three and four and snugged this attachment plate up tight.

Some heads up, some heads down, depends on the amount of clearance from the inside rear bumper brackets.....close up of the PS attachment...

Note with these brackets I kicked hole number one just off the frame, gave me another inch to install the tire in its original mounting holes and still clear the PanHard Bar on the axle...neat...

Its all in there, tire looks tight but plenty of wiggle room and I just remembered, gotta go back down and snug it up after typing this!!! The ball sits out just far enough from the bumper to drop on the small trailers I plan to be pulling...I think a big hitch from a uhaul will fit fine too.

Big Sexy has his Draw Bar on....

Big Sexy chillin with his Draw Bar tucked away behind the seat...

Not sure what brand this was but bolted right in with the rear tank and did not stick down.

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

My cobbled-together-from-used Toyota Class 3. I posted about it in the "under $50 mods" thread.
I picked it for the rearward bend so as to fit a spare tire. It was narrowed and frame brackets fabbed.

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

This is the front hitch. Rear is the same design but the angle that mounts to the frame is twice as long in back.
I still have some flanges to weld onto it where the receiver meets the cross tube.

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

Ordered a couple "hidden hitches" and dissapointed with the "hidden" part. Designed a fabricated one and having a buddy of mine who builds them for a living ( Joes trailer supply) weld it up today. I want to keep it "hidden" and have the lic plate removable to install the stinger. The 67-72 bumper mod with flip down would have been super easy if I hadn't already bought a new 60-66 rear bumper

Pics too follow

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

I just finished up modifying a 1992-2000 Suburban/Blazer/Pickup factory hitch to work on the 66 as a hidden hitch with a 67-72 rear bumper. It was about a 1 1/2" too wide, not sure if it's because I have a GMC with leafs, but it works perfect now

I have more pictures and info on my build page here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=399283&page=6

Installed

With ball mount in place

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

Today I installed a Curt 13028 class 3 hitch on my '63 long-fleet. This hitch is made for these trucks so there are no adjustable slide plate bolts or other universal fit features. It just bolts on to the frame with (6) 1/2" grade 8 bolts. I bought it from HitchAnything.com for $109.47 shipped.

As you can see, there is plenty of room for my winch hung spare tire (235/75-15) and would also clear a frame mounted gas tank. The hitch is drilled for the stock spare tire hardware if you still have it. Installation was pretty simple but I have a lift and a transmission jack to support the hitch so I didn't have to wrestle much to mark and drill the holes. It's not hidden but it is discrete.

...ned.

HERE is the correct link the Curt 13028 hitch receiver at Hitchanything.com. The link in my post above isn't very helpful. Oops.

Re: Show us your receiver hitches!

This is really useful thread.

Been looking for more info as I am building a hitch with removable ball.

While cleaning and clearing the garage, I did discover a set of towbar mounting plates, and they are smaller and fit differently to the ones I had planned to use.

The smaller brackets pull the cross bar upward and can be fitted closer to the bed as well.

I started to cut the pieces to prepare them for welding up etc, then realized I really need the new bumper to get it all right.

So now I have to wait for my spares I ordered last year to get here by container.
