I am almost 50 but I still like my tunes, and yes BOOM. I wanted to know the best and less expensive way to go. I will need an Amp, stereo, and subs, speakers.

1st would it be best to just cut out my dash to accommodate a new unit.
2nd has anyone been able to mount subs behind the seat with gas tank still in.
3rd where is the best place to mount my amp, Under seat?
4th I was looking on amazon and found a woofer setup that looked like it would go under the seat.
5th Has anyone installed a stereo with full DVD screen.

Pictures would be awesome of your setup. Thanks a lot for your advice in advance.

I know they make the under the seat boxes but the gas tank area is pretty small. You might could do something your self. I built my own double sub box behind the seat but the tank is gone.
I would by a single din unit if going in the dash and if you wanted a full navigation one build a center console to install it. I have both amps under the seat in my 71.

I moved my in-cab tank to under the bed and got a set of corner speaker brackets from board member bigblock73 (Jeff) and mounted Pioneer tri-axial 150watt 6x9's there and had a stereo shop mount a pair of Polk 5" 100 watt dual cone under the dash. These are hooked to a Sanyo FXCD-500am/fm/cd/cassette single DIN unit. That is mounted under my dash in a marine weather proof enclosue. Attached a pic here. In the dash I have an original FM truck AM/FM I bought at a swap meet and had re-furbished. Both radios run off the same fender mount antenna using a splitter lead. Don't do Ipod or MP3, too much old school for that.

I was looking on Amazon at the shallow woofer amp combo's. The dimensions measure thin enough to go under my seat. Has anyone tried one of these and does anyone know a good brand. I noticed Boss,Pyle,Soundstream, Kenwood has one.

I'd stay away from anything from Boss, Pyle or newer Soundstream. Of the four I'd pick the Kenwood.

That's what I was leaning towards except the amp only has 150 watts. But should be plenty for me,

If it were me and I had to put the sub under the seat I'd probably go with something like this and build my own box for it.

Just made this console and installed a Kenwood DVD / Bluetooth stereo. Rear corner mounted 6x9's, dome tweeters mounted in corners by visors and basslink powered sub behind bucket seats. All speakers are Infinity.

Now that's an awesome idea. What did you do about your heater floor exit.

The sides (at the back) are cut at an angle and I placed a plate in the back to divert the heat to each side and keep the heat away from the stereo.

I thought you probably did something like that. This time of year is a good time to try it. You built the box yourself? Is it made of aluminium?

Yes, it's 1/4 aluminum and 1/4 tinted plexiglass that's painted black on the backside to keep from seeing through it. Ordered the ss cupholders on ebay. I've got about 10 hours in it.

I think I've decided it's time to go ahead and do the under bed tank Conversion. Once I do that then I will have better options! I really appreciate every bodies input it was very helpful. Thanks. Lyn

once you relocate the tank; look at my build. 2 amps, a single 10 sub and my battery reside in the gas tank slot.
and yes on question 1. single din head units will be around for years. cut the dash.
there are a couple of very nice 67-72 retrofits in this ''truck audio'' section.

thanks. while mine is a 58 the sub/amp/battery enclosure could easily be built for a 67 truck.

Obviously the more money you can put into it, the better quality you will get. The more custom you're willing to get, the better everything will fit. I think a very good basic setup would be 4- 5.25"or 6.5" speakers and a 200-300 watt rms subwoofer. Great for all around listening, and fairly cost effective option. I suggest on a truck that old, replacing the factory audio wiring would be most beneficial. Wiring from Knu Konceptz is fantastic for the price. This might seem overwhelming, but its really only 2 wires per speaker, and will increase audio quality tenfold as well as lower risk of wire fire.
