I would have it privately appraised. Kelly book doesn't normally take into consideration your geographic location.
Also, if you have any upgraded features, a private appraiser can identify and properly evaluate them. For example, a lot of people claim to have a "restored" vehicle, but if it has disc brakes, a late model engine, etc, it is actually modified, NOT restored. These things affect the true value and appraisal.

Here in the Midwest, for example, these trucks do not bring the kind of price that they do on the west coast.

Re: truck value

I would think they would be worth more money, because there are less of them in the midwest.

Quite the opposite- there's a lot of these trucks around here. Also have to consider that the overall condition will be a little worse here than from the west side, also, LOL!

The availability factors in, but also the buying market. There's not as much of a buyer base here, it seems, even tho the locals have already started adopting the TV pricing for old cars, which is not at all accurate.

Saw an ad locally for a '64 or '65 C 30 mostly original, did not run, needed brakes and was pretty rough, body-wise asking price $5000. It was about a $1000 truck.

Re: truck value

Prices/values will vary widely due to condition. The only way to properly insure a vintage vehicle is to have it professionally appraised. I have four vehicles on classic insurance, and they have all been appraised. This will also benefit if you have a claim: no arguing about the vehicle's worth. It's documented on paper. Make sure you are insuring with a proper classic vehicle insurer on an agreed value policy. No "depreciation" BS.

Re: truck value

NADA has a classic guide:

Their values are pretty high in my opinion. So, if you're insuring for replacement value, maybe this would be the way to go. I think for DMV's and Insurance companies, this is usually the guide they mostly use. I know, here in VA our DMV uses NADA for sales tax values.

Re: truck value

I just went to a classic car/truck dealer and had mine appraised, then went to my insurance company and doubled it. since I do not drive my truck daily, the cost is minimal but, I cant have Hagerty or those insurances because it isn't garaged.

Re: truck value

I used Hagerty and my insurance Guy has a '63. I originally put 15k then up to 20k with all the added parts. I have had guys say that's not enough. Consider I plan on going into a 10k paint job. I have 2k in just the bed sides, 600 in the Hood, doors next. PorterBuilt front to be installed. I put way more in this one than any before. I have also had it 15 years while others have come and gone. Truck is only worth what one is willing to pay. If your lucky more than two. Me personally if its not a short bed its only worth half unless its 3/4 ton or 4x4.

Re: truck value

Those NADA prices are way out of line for the current market. These trucks are not bringing that much.

We tried to use the NADA value guide when our '64 GMC was totaled. It claimed we were worth about $4600. We had to practically beg to get the $2400 we did. Haven't seen an insurance company yet use the NADA to set value.
