Poor Dads Hobby "Quick and Dirty"

Just Thought I would start this new build thread for my new project. This '61 Shortfleet 2wd was acquired from a hesitant seller for $600.

We had her running in about 2 hours after getting her home. What looks like a 235 with a 3 speed on he column.

Already removed all the running gear. Front end has been completely removed and epoxied.. this project will be "quick and dirty". Here's some pictures to get started. More pictures and details to come.

Re: Poor Dads Hobby "Quick and Dirty"

I have to do some work to fund this project the next few days. Will be back at it Tuesday. On my way now to dig a 250 out of storage to look to see how much I need to do to get it to work. Not even broke in yet, its exciting to think I maybe able to finally use it on something.

Re: Poor Dads Hobby "Quick and Dirty"

Ok, I dug out the motor from storage. It was originally built for my 69 project, but Im sure as you guys know.. some projects you have to just let go. So its a little dustier than these pictures after sitting for 2 years, Im thinking Im going to clean her up a little, and dust it with some Metallic Red engine paint from VHT. It just has a stainless bolt set, so everything is going to have to come apart again to make sure I dont ruin the detail.

Btw it was built for high RPM specs ( marine motor) .30 over internally balanced ( have no idea what problem that's going to cause me due to the flywheel not being on it or the damper... we will see.

Anyone done one of these 250's in a 61 using the 3 speed?

Ok. These pictures are not relevant to this build but this was my first quick and dirty job... 3 days from start to finish. Gave it to my step dad. Just thought I'd share. Im thinking this new one is going to be closer to 45-60 days. Its a shortbed.. so yenno ( to me its more desirable)

Yup. It was not super rusty and paint was in ok shape. I used some scrap sheet metal to repair the common rust on the lower rear fenders.. wasn't pretty but just needed a backing... only body filler body work on anything that was super noticeable... helll some dents were just shallowed out when I was done. Flattened it all out with 220. Sealed it.. Caked on some $120 single stage ( TCP coastal Highway blue) enough to fill scratches and hide chips I didn't feather out all the way.. Still Better Than Maaco.

Just wanted to Blow my own mind I'd have a head Turner.. Mission Accomplished.

Oh and Btw I got the truck from a trade I made in Iabor. So old Blue cost me $200 in paint and supplies.. and some time.

I'll say one thing....those are some shiny parts for a "Budget" build! LOL! Nice work. Gotta love those 6 bangers! I sure love mine!

Re: Poor Dads Hobby "Quick and Dirty"

Not too dramatic today. Got the rad support and rear top frame in undercoating. Also played with a speckled look in the engine compartment. It looks good and hides a lot. Hopefully you can see it in the picture. For a $13 cleanup job ($7 for undercoating and $6 for speckled) it looks pretty slick. Its in the next set of pictures

Didn't make it out to the shop today. Probably a full day tomorrow stripping the driver door and the front grill outter. However, my awesome wife grabbed this for me from Autozone for under $10. VHT Engine Paint Metallic red

Got the door and front outer grill stripped. Have it in epoxy Saturday. Got exactly what I wanted done.. but dam doing both sides of the door was an endurance challenge
