removing stepside bed

I'm getting ready to remove my bed and just wandering if I need to do any bracing on the bedbefore I remove it

Re: removing stepside bed

I have never messed up a bed when removing it with or without the tailgate attached but the rear can be tweaked fairly easy. If you were to remove it with the tailgate still on would be the best. It is really not a big deal either way.

Re: removing stepside bed

Well I was mainly worried about the bottom of the bed. The braces are pretty much rotted out and I took the wood out of it.

Re: removing stepside bed

You did make it weaker by doing that. Do you have three other people that can help remove it? You should be able to pick it up by the corners and set down in a flat/level area. I would not set it down tweaked. If you can get some 4x4's to set it on would be best. That way you are not setting it down on the bottom of the fender areas.

Re: removing stepside bed

I was thinking of bracing the middle at the bottom with some metal tube to help. Everything else is intact. Sounds like I'll be good then. Has anyone used a engine hoist to help with the process?

Re: removing stepside bed

I have used an engine hoist several times. Really easy to do it that way.
