Single Exhaust Pictures
I am looking for pictures of V8's with a single exhaust setup. More specifically, I would like to see how you tied in the headers/exhaust manifolds into a single pipe. I am thinking of using a mangaflow y-pipe with 2 2.5" inlets and single 3" outlet. I would like to see suggested areas to place the y-pipe and make the cross over. Would it be better to set everything up on the passenger side or the driver side.

Re: Single Exhaust Pictures
I too would like to see some pics of this. My 72 was swapped to dual from the manifolds back when the y pipe rusted through but I'd like to return to a single exhaust exiting from the factory location behind the drivers side rear wheel.
I'd also like to know if anyone has used the newer trans cross-members and routed the exhaust over it while managing to avoid the speedo cable. For what it is worth routing down the passenger side could cause heat soak issues on the fuel lines, they cross from the tank the frame at the back of the cab. |

Re: Single Exhaust Pictures
Too bad you didnt ask me this at 6 years ago so I could get you some pictures. My one and only 72 Cheyenne had a single 3 inch exhaust from the headers back. I made a Y pipe myself by just sitting down and fitting, cutting, fitting, grinding, fitting, cursing, fitting and finally welding it together. All I did was make the piece that came off the left header and fit it to the right pipe. It took me a total of 16 hours to make it, weld it, fit it and weld the leaks. I also made the Y pipe so I could unbolt it if I needed to remove it without removing the entire exhaust system. It helps that a friend of mine owns an exhaust shop and that I used to do exhaust work when I was younger. I also used a school bus muffler. Cheaper than Magnaflo and has a little deeper sound to it.
I am from the old school of why buy it when I can make it myself. That comes from when I didnt have money for anything so I had to do it myself. Now that I can afford what I want, I still do it myself. I guess that makes me cheap?

Re: Single Exhaust Pictures
I have 3" single exhaust on my crew cab dually. Edelbrock headers & Y pipe and a large by huge Magnaflow muffler. It sounds great. I'll take some pics when I'm home this weekend.
I'm gonna do something similar on the 67 QCS shop truck. I'm gonna use a Flowmaster 2.5 to 3 Y section and a huge muffler. Probably another Magnaflow or Dynamax Super Turbo.

Re: Single Exhaust Pictures
That's exactly what I was looking for! Looks like it crosses over from the passenger side and ties in just past the crossmember on the driver side. Thanks a ton!

Re: Single Exhaust Pictures
Boy, I really don't know if its bone stock. it does'nt look to be cobbed up, exhaust mounts look original, its supposed to have 70,000 original miles on it, can a stock exhaust last that long? I don't know. It's 8 degrees out side now, I'll wait for it to warm up some and try to get the pipe size, (maybe in the spring ) unless some one else on the board knows the stock exhust size.
