1970 1 ton waddyathink

A friend of mine has this old '70 1 ton, I need it like I need another hole in my head.

It's Data plate lists it as a 157" wheel base,

4DG5AD west coast mirrors
4F51AF front/rear shocks
4F60AF heavy duty front springs
4J70DS brake booster equip
4M49AC turbo hydra-matic
4T60AA HD battery
4Z52AA full foam seat
4612AC green vinyl
9668AA 3 speed auto trans
9920CA flasher unit
1681BA special paint
4F19AD body cross sill mtn
4F59AC front stabilizer
4G60AH aux springs
4LS98A 350 cu. in. V-8
4R05LD dr wheel conversion
9638AB permanent anti free
9719AA fuel tank cylinderic

It appears to be somewhat rust free, no apparent rust in the typical areas. The truck had cargo box on it that was just removed. And it has a production looking frame bracket that the box was setting on.

If anything it might be a fixerupper and sell it.

Sorry for the bad pictures, I need to get software to manage my GoPro video. I had to stop the video and take a picture of the screen to show the truck. I should have stopped and changed to picture mode.

I'd bet money on it. They even had those 2 hole Budd wheels and that's the only place I've seen them. I wonder what that second 3spd auto trans option is. The M49 already covered the Turbo Hydramatic

Re: 1970 1 ton waddyathink

I almost posted something about that in the initial post, but just figured maybe a goof up.

And maybe one of you guys might have insight to it. I haven't really spent the time decoding the build tags.
I wonder what the 9719AA fuel tank cylindric amounts to. It does have this large 20 gallon saddle tank on the passenger side frame rail but I didn't notice a fuel switch valve in the drivers floor beside the seat.

I've made them an offer, (not very much) it is complete, less a carb. I figure the engine is worn out. If I get it I'll clean it up and put a carb on it, a battery and see what happens.
I might keep it and build a flat bed for it later on, like I need another one. These old ton-ers are just cool. It does seme to be somewhat solid and minimal visible rust.

all of the 9xxxxx options are SFO (Special Fleet Option). I'm guessing it was either related to the speedo equipment on the trans (certified); or it was equipped for addition of some sort of auxiliary drive (like a pto, but whatever an automatic could run)

that may have been SEO for special equipment option, my memory is hazy

also, if that frame mounted tank is cylindric, odds are that it's factory installed. follow the lines and there will be a switch in the dash, or a manual valve under the dash

Re: 1970 1 ton waddyathink

I think it would be really neat to have a thread that lists all of the '67-'72 options with numbers and descriptions, for light duty and medium duty trucks.

I wonder if the transmission is governed lower since it was built for a rental company
