New Trends...best guesses?
Well 2014 is approaching quickly so another year is about to hit.
I was wondering if any of the members had a 'feel' for what might be some of the upcoming trends in the classic truck (or car) industry or what might continue to gain strength OR...what might have run its course and is going to start to die out? For myself, I think the rat rod trend will continue to gain strength for several more years with these 'creation's becoming more and more inventive and although I don't have one....I think they are as cool as heXXX! Also, the patina thing will continue for at least a few more years...until those trucks outnumber the new paints, then that will start to back off..and same goes on the lowering/slam and bag trend I think. Anywhooo, my two bits and hopefully I will be able to think of a few more! So what are you best guesses?..whats hot and whats not? Coley

I'm hoping the new trend will be maroon and white, LWB trucks with 307 C.I. engine with 3 OTT, factory stance, and an old man behind the wheel slowing down traffic...

What I'm driving at (pardon the pun) is any look, including stock, being so pervasive that people start moving in a new direction. With the lower/slam/bag thing is that if 9 out of 10 trucks end up being slammed/bagged/etc that whole look will end up being the 'norm' or status quo to the point that a new shift will occur. (....hopefully not 'donking' LOL...which still eludes me for some reason). Personally, I'm a big fan of the 2" lowered look although mine still retains its stock height. all Good Coley Here's one more thing that I thought might see an 'uptick'..and thats the vintage camper trend. I think those things look very cool and pose a nice usefullness so restored units will (I'm guessing) continue to gain favour.

People have been lowering trucks for so long and it's so popular it's hard to call it a trend, I think that's what he meant.

I don't think lowering will ever go away. It is a constant trend through all types of automobilia, hot rods, customs, street trucks, mini trucks, rat rods, muscle cars. No matter what kind of vehicle, there is always some faction of that style that aims towards the ground.
I think one of the most prominent trends is going to lean towards stock appearing bodies with modified running gear. Classic styles with today's drivability. It is fast becoming one of my favorite build styles.

Lowering is not a trend it is a fact , the patina thing has took over the classic truck industry and will continue probably forever , the patina thing is helping me out its gonna save me a lot of money lol my 67 needs a paintjob right now if this was 1985 the bodywork and paint on my truck would be unacceptable BUT since its 2014 and people want trucks that look old and faded all I have to do is wash my 67 about a million more times and drive it as much as possible and here in about 4 or 5 more years it will be perfect lol I LOVE IT !

I'm not sure it will be a trend, but I am seeing more of the "big trucks" 1 ton and cab overs being brought back to life as driver, work trucks. I like it, and I want one!

I agree, I like the 1 tons, cabovers, and motor homes and of course seeing them being used too.
Oh yeah suburbans and blazers and of course the home built crewcabs (I need to get back on that project) I'm all for updated engines trannys, and nice paint jobs (not show paint) just good driver quality with door jambs, firewalls interiors all painted correctly inside and out. Slammed to ground, smoothed out firewalls, removed door handles that's old news. ZZZZZZZZZZ

I don't see any new trends. We've already have beautiful restored rides, great daily driver rides and mega high dollar show trucks. And Im pretty sure they have maxed out on tire and wheel size (hopefully lol).

I think the "shop truck/door logo" trend is declining.
It's great for the guy that will NEVER sell his truck. But it kills resale, (in my opinion) of a nice patina'd truck. My first thought when I see a nice shop truck is,... "how do I remove that logo and save the paint?"

I think big trucks will become more popular like Keith said.
I also see a growth in "nerdy" trucks. By that I mean skinny wheels, mild lowering, maybe full wheel covers. Less cut bed floors, less air bags, less giant Connestoga wagon sized wheels, less shaved firewalls, less billet everything. You guys will scoff, but this is coming, I guarantee it.....retro trucks. Old style mags, raked stance, M/T valve covers, STP decals, chrome exhaust tips, gun racks. Mark my words. Old trucks are beautiful. Firewall heater boxes can be made pretty. The dashes were absolutely perfect as GM designed them. Trim looks good on the body. Stock bench seats are great. That's stuff is kind of novel compared to modern trucks. Folks will want to keep that novelty as these trucks get more rare.

I can only hope big hooped wheels and ruberband tires are going away.
And maybe in 50 years or more those giant Connestoga wagon sized wheels will start showing up mounted on the fences at entry ways to properties, like the old wooden and steel wagon wheels have been done for years.

I think we will see more of the heavier trucks. Several of which will probably be lower and/or on air bags. This past year several new slammed dually have shown up in mags and online. I think this trend will grow.
On the other side of the coin, I think there will still be several more trucks that are lifted to the sky and never leave the pavement. This probably won't be as common with over trucks but the market as a all will see even more of this.

Maybe the new trend will be to stop trashing everyone else's taste? That would be fantastic!
The few posts before this one are why local car shows suck. It's not fun anymore. Nothing but people trying to make themselves look better by insulting what other people like. It gets old real quick. I personally haven't gone to cruise night In over a year because of it. I just drive my trucks instead. I understand that there's a lot of people who don't like the big wheel thing, but there's also a lot of people that do. Just look at the TOTM/TOTY competitions on this very site. Lots of big wheels there. Sorry but the wheels are here to stay.

Yeah, I definitely agree on the 'dont trash your neighbours' theme.... different strokes...even if it isn't your thing, we are more or less in this hobby together.
For me, I'm not a 'slammer'...but I can appreciate a couple of inches of lowering...but I'm happy to park by those that are at any meet. Now, that said...I do agree with TX firefighter on the gun racks....thats a pretty damn cool accessory to have, even if its just for holding the fly rod or whatever. I'm also in agreement on the larger trucks...in the 1 ton range and that includes the vintage tow rigs, which I have been seeing some great deals on. What I would like to see is some really creative bodywork if you are going custom.....don't fasten on someone elses idea if you can help it, do your own vision on 'em...steampunk, 59 edsel, kenworth...whatever, do something unique if you're entering that arena. I like all old trucks and prefer mine to look mostly stock but I like to look at all styles .I hope I have never offended anyone by saying I like mine stock looking as I admire all the work it takes to make your ride YOURS .My cars and trucks look mostly stock but the more you look you can see the modifications here and there ,done to my taste . I really dont see anything as trends ,more as different tastes which to me keeps the hobby alive and interesting .
