1970 Ochre/white C10 aka Elsie

Thought I'd share my truck and how I got it with y'all. This is my first C10 but my second classic car. Found the truck on eBay up in Kansas which is like a foreign country to a Texan like myself. Nonetheless, I decided to go for it. I booked a plane ticket for the weekend and waited "patiently". Soon enough the morning came and the wife graciously dropped me off at the airport. The flight didn't take long and next thing I knew I was being picked up to look at a truck that I didn't really know well enough. But, as soon as we pulled up and I saw her I knew she was coming home with me. And not just because I had just flown one-way to Kansas City without a way home otherwise. Next was the, harrowing, 9 hour journey back to Texas in a poorly lowered 1970 truck without seat belts. I've had her for a couple of months now and learning as much as I can. I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions in the coming months and hopefully years about the truck. Been lurking around the website for a while picking up advice and ideas for a little while now to try to get a head start. Anyway, here are some pictures for y'all to enjoy.

Nice truck and great story! I flew to MN for one once and drove it back. Kind of funny buying a one way ticket! At least your wife dropped you off at the airport. I had to get my dad to because my wife thought I was nuts! ha

From that angle the truck looks as long as a river barge. Nice stance too.

Thanks y'all. Yeah, I'm still pretty amazed my wife went for it. She still thinks I'm nuts though. Love the stance also (part of the reason I wanted it), but it rides like complete crap. Right now I'm thinking I need to put stock height springs up front and 4" drop springs and some shock relocators in the back to make it level and 1" higher than it is. I figure it will be a lot cheaper than a c-notch and/or air bags. Anyway, here are some quick cell phone shots from the parking lot at work just now. Let me know what y'all think.

Congrats on the new ride... Looks like the rear could use a small notch to help with the axle to frame contact.

A c-notch would be nice, but unfortunately I neither have the place or money to make it happen. Some new springs and shocks on the other hand I think I can handle.

I see some CPP springs, billet tie rod adjusters, and drop spindles.

Your rear shock angle is terrible because of the stock shock brackets.
You need a set of rear shock relocators (to get your rear shocks to actually work) and an adjustable track bar if you don't already have one.

Lolife99: Will the shock relocators and adjustable track bar help the bottoming out on the bump stops? I was just planning on lifting it back up an inch at the very least to get it off those bump stops.

It will definitely help.
Right now your shocks are just pivoting on the shock bolts.
The adjustable track bar allows you to re-center the rearend.
I am sure it's shifted to the passenger side right now.

It also looks like the rear springs have been heated or are sagging.
Look how they are setting on the trailing arm.
Like the pigtail part of the spring is tucked inside the bigger coil.

I see what you mean. I just assumed that's how 5" drop springs looked from CPP. Thanks for all your input. I'll be getting that stuff addressed soon hopefully.

Nice truck ! 4 years ago my wife(girl friend at the time)and I flew to Las Vegas and bought a 71K 10 and drove it back to Houston.We had a great time,the weather was perfect and we took our time and enjoyed the scenery.We are living in Weatherford now,but are in the process of moving to Aledo (820 and I 30 area)Let me know if you need a hand with anything.I'd be glad to lend a hand.Calvin.

Road trip adventure in an unseen truck.... I did that too!

In 2009 I found a truck on Craigslist in southern California. I had a friend that lives there send me detailed pics and make the purchase. Unfortunately he is not a car guy and it was not roadworthy for a long trip. It took several days of of work before I drove it home from Southern CA to Michigan via Rt. 66. Stupidest thing I ever did.... but it sure was fun.
