My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Well... after being shut down I upped the membership fee and want to ask for opinions again . should I or shouldn't I part this truck out ? This is not a sale ad I am asking opinions only !!!! I bought a 1969 GMC to scrap for parts and once it was home I am having second thoughts and am asking what would you do ? it's a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton 350 4 speed truck in decent shape . Should I part it out for my 2 '67 builds or should I sell/trade it in one piece ? http://http://http://http://

I'll say what I said in your other thread. It looks like a pretty decent truck for TN but I wouldn't have a lot of problems sacrificing it to complete a couple of other projects... Just my 2¢ worth. LockDoc

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Touch call - figure out what parts you'd sell and how much you'd ask, then total it up. Ask that +$250 for the whole truck and see if you can save yourself the labor and make the same money by having someone drive it off/tow it away in one piece. If no takers, then part it. Parting it is a good bit of work and the hassle of advertising, etc, all takes your time. Better than scrapping though - and I bet someone would buy that truck. Do the math, I'm betting with the rarity of GMC stuff, you might actually make more $ by parting it.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
... Sell it as is in one piece keep the hubcaps/wheelcovers. ... unless you are under 50yrs old, and have all kinds of extra time, to take stuff apart and post pictures of it and Wait. ........ nice enough truck, it should sell again. imo.
I just turned 50 and I see how fast the clock turns now. I am getting so decisive it is funny.... life and stock hubcaps are good.

If it were mine I'd keep it. Gotta have at least one to drive while working on other projects.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
What is it that you need from it? Cab? A fender? Bed? Just small pieces?
Unfortunately, it's just an old long bed at this point. There's no cool original patina paint, it's a long bed, it's a 6 lug manual drum brake, non power steering, no A/C truck, it's a little haggard and rough... You were bragging about snatching up trucks super cheap a while ago, so I'm guessing you got this one for a song. Some of the panels are a little beat up, cab needs work, long beds themselves (the bed) don't really sell for a whole lot... there really isn't much value in the frame or suspension, this one may be worth throwing it back on Craigslist and see what happens.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Well In my neck of the woods that's a 3000 plus dollar truck. So I might be biased in saying it's definitely a fixable driver. Making a decision on a truck like that is a problem I wish I had lol.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
i agree with the " put it in line to be fixed" comment. but then again, did any of you fellas see tll74's thread about winter time trucks? those pictures are what i imagine my yard is going to look like eventually. i have enough space, i keep lying to myself. i could cram in a few more! but if time or health is at all a factor, part her out and sell her. id rather see something i started come to a finish, than a rolling monument of wasted time and missed opportunities.
me personally, id keep it, part it out to further the progress on the projects i have undertaken, and then decide if i still want to keep it or just sell the remainder. i pretty much did this after i found the 67. i got her for a screaming deal, $100 and 2 packs of marb 100's. took off what parts i needed and was still left with about 90% of a decent truck, so i kept her, and if i had come across that gmc of yours, id keep it as well. just my humble opinion. have a safe and happy happy happy 2014 everyone!!

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Put a limit on the number of hours and dollars you can put into that truck. Fix it to your budget of time and $$, then sell it. A seat cover, a dash cover of some sort.
A thorough cleanup. A tuneup. List it. Then, if it sells as a driver, you and someone else both win. If it doesn't sell, part it out quickly in large chunks to pay for your other projects. Just MHO |

I'm interested in the radio delete plate if you decide to part it out.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Personally, I hate to see anything that isn't a total disaster get parted out. If its good enough to make back into a driver, I'd sell it rather than part it.

Re: My Dilema ,Should I or shouldn't I part it out ?
Well... I've decided to Clean it up some more new plugs and clean the carb and give it a new dash pad and reupholster the seat in black vinyl ( I've been sewing custom upholstery for 35 years ), And if it sells before I start needing parts off of it good ! and if not you just can't pass up parts in your own driveway !

I think you should sell the tailgate to me. So it will get better gas mileage, of course.
