48 Chevy rear end swap?

I may have missed it somewhere on here but wanting to swap the rear on my 1948 Chevy 3/4 truck. Looking at a 1992 camaro rear. Will this work? I see many suggest the Ford Explorer but wondered on this year. Just in the initial stages of turning this truck into something of a daily driver. Want reliability and for highway driving. Thanks.

Maybe this, from the search above, will help getting started:

The 92 axles are according to my info 62 inches flange to flange but are also said to be a bit on the weak side if you intend to run serious horsepower and tires. If you have a mild engine and aren't wont to drive it hard you should be ok but if you have 400 or so hp and like to hit the loud pedal it might be a bit weak.

Yes looking for a good cruiser rear end. I have a fresh, stock 305 that will be going in this truck, so not too much power, but enough for me.

Re: 48 Chevy rear end swap?

I put an explorer rear in my truck. It's not on the road yet so I can't say how it works out. I installed a TCI rear leaf kit at the same time. The rear almost dropped right in but the centering pins were about 1/4" off and the pinion was shooting 8* up. i'm going to pull it back out and cut the old perches off and weld new ones on. The rear I got was out of an '02 explorer with trac-loc posi and 3.73 rear gears and disk brakes. I grabbed it from a local u-pull-it that had about 15 more there for $100 bucks. The bolt pattern is different than chevy too. I had to get wheel adapters for mine because the rims I have had too much backspacing so I just ordered the adapter for the lugs too. Good luck on your build.

The TCI kit is for 3inch axle tubes and the ford 8.8 has 3.25 inch tubes. I'd love to see more of what you did to make it fit. Also pictures of it in would be great.

I'll take pictures tomorrow morning when I get home from work but the lower spring plates are good for the 3.25" axle tube. I added a 2" lowering block so I have to get new u bolt made but for mock up purposes I used 3/8" all thread.

For some reason I can't post pictures now. The kit worked out great though and is all quality materials.

Lol yea it's only for mock up. I need to get new ones bent since I'm using the lowering blocks.
