Thumbs down Desert Muscle Cars- Buyer beware

Bought a right rear shock mount for my 1972 C-10 from Desert Muscle Cars on 12/18/2013 for $20.33 and paid by credit card. On 12/26/2013(8 days later) he charged my card $32.73 and claimed the differance was for shipping. The mount is no bigger than my hand. Today is 1/5/2014 and I have still not got my mount.

Re: Buyer beware

Think this needs to go in the review section?

Re: Buyer beware

Have you called back and asked where your part is? I would also ask how it was shipped and if shipped, with whom and you want the tracking number. Good luck!

Re: Desert Muscle Cars- Buyer beware

Looking at the time gap it would appear that they also had to order the part. I'm guessing that you should receive it soon. Good luck!

I miss the point of this post? I just don't understand your frustration with this company. It sounds like you are #1 mad because it cost $12.50 to ship a $20.33 part and #2 that you are mad because they didn't tell you about it.

My question is: Did you expect them to ship you a $20.33 part for free? Or was the part like $10.00 and they said shipping is $10.33 giving a total of $20.00, then charged your card $32.73.

It happens all the time in the parts business that a part cost less than the shipping. Price does not reflect the cost of shipping, the shipping company does. Some people just cant fathom that for some reason. The facts are shipping costs are what they are and are set by UPS, FedEx, USPS and many more freight companies. Some companies do charge more than actual shipping and some dont. I can tell you when you run a business you have to make money on every dollar you spend, no matter how you spend it. Otherwise you are just trading dollars and most businesses do not do that especialy on small purchases.
$12.50 sounds like a pretty reasonable price to pay to ship that from Tucson, AZ to Winston Salem, NC.
I am not trying to make you angry, just trying to make you understand why things cost what they cost. WES

Re: Desert Muscle Cars- Buyer beware

Wes of Classic Heartbeat, You are right on #1 and #2. I ran a successful business from 15 years old until retiring at age 45. I shipped new and used parts all over the U.S. and Canada and when someone bought a part from me I don't care if it weighed 3 ounces and was 3" long or 20 sheets of 22 gauge Sheet metal 4ftx8ft and weighed 484 lbs I could tell them the shipping cost in 5 seconds (not 8 days later). Like I said I am not bashing the company itself just the way they charge for shipping. I am not mad at anyone and just to let you know he got paid for the part and shipping even though he sent me the wrong part. I do not want something for nothing never have and never will, I pay for what I get and sometimes for what I don't get!! I know that the cost for shipping is a lot higher now days because I still sell and buy things and have 100% positive feedback on other web sights. By the way are you in anyways involved with Desert Muscle? Hope You Got My Point Check You Credit Card When Buying From Some Venders!!!

Re: Desert Muscle Cars- Buyer beware

No, No involvement with Desert Muscle Cars at all. I am my own company. I was just trying to make heads or tails from your post. I didn't think that you were bashing them, I just couldn't understand what the complaint was. Judging by the shipping charge I would say that they carge pretty darn close to the exact charge it cost them. Keep in mind different companies get different rates depending on the ammount of stuff they ship and how jenerouse their shipping companies sales person is. I do not like calling shipping off the cuff because even after being in business doing this for 15 years i still get it wrong and usualy not in my favor. I can correct when I am wrong in my favor, but not the other way. I would say he waited 8 days because it took them that long to get the part in and ship it. Most (and I do mean just most) companies do not charge your card untill the part is in stock and ready to ship. If you don't ask what the shipping is going to be then sometimes it isn't told to the customer. Not that they are trying to hide anything, but usualy they do not want to make a mistake. No matter what though as a consumer I would request a refund and have them call tag the part because it wasn't what you ordered. That is unless you think you might use it sometime. WES
