no spark
i have a 1985 chevy c10 and i have replaced all the electrical in the truck and it still will not turn over

No spark?
AND/OR no turning over? Turn over = engine will crank/spin when you turn the key to start No spark = verified no spark occuring at the/a plug(s) while it is being turned over. =-) (Remove a plug wire, take an old spark plug and insert in plug wire, ground spark plug preferably with a large alligator clip to a good ground, place it so you can see it while you turn the key to start and observe for sparking to occur. Color of spark is of little consequence at this point). Run = running with no driver input other than possibly throttle to keep it running. Alex. |

What kind of distributor is it? A large cap HEI or a small cap w/ divorced coil?

Those have a 12V feed to the base which is then wired to the cap, it's on the outside, 2 terminals. Coil + and - (tach signal). Did you check there?

On the cap, on the side. There are 2 contact prongs that you have to insert before putting the coil in the cap (or on in case of aftermarket stuff like the accel ones)

There is a possibility that you may want to consider. It happened to me, so it could happen to anyone. The pickup coil that is in the base of the distributor may have failed. This will require pulling the distributor and taking the shaft out of it to get the coil out, as it is in the base of the unit.

I was gonna go there but measuring for 12V is easier than pulling the thing apart If there is 12V it's either the pickup coil, the module or the coil itself

You may have had the ESC distibutor also that has an additional 4-wire plug from the base of the dizzy to a controller up above the glovebox (looks like a tbi computer) that could be the culprit.
But my guess is its the ignition module under the cap (very common and sometimes has intermittent failures) The top 2 in pic are the large cap hei. |

did you do the cap and rotor too?
both are keyd with a notch, make sure the cap plugs are on all the way in any tach on it? a tach short, grounds the coil won't fire..... check the wires going under the cap too for a break
